Crying or Very sad
Installed JRE 1.4.1_05 on home PC (Athlon) running Win98SE and RM 0.81 runs fine. Just installed same combo on my laptop (Compaq Presario 1700 running WinME). JRE appears to be properly installed, but RM won't run. Evil or Very Mad

I've looked at the rmaster.err file and it has lots of lines of protocol device translator and command translator stuff Confused , a few "multi-name remotes" messages Confused about 3/5ths of the way through, and the following at the very end (after a bunch of "Parsing button lines"):

Parsing button "DiscreteOFF=$3F"
Parsing line ""
Caught exception in RemoteMaster.main()! Surprised
java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: 0
at com.hifiremote.jp1.Remote.load(Remote.java:212)
at com.hifiremote.jp1.KeyMapMaster.<init>(KeyMapMaster.java:195)
at com.hifiremote.jp1.RemoteMaster.main(RemoteMaster.java:12)
Mad wahhh! Crying or Very sad

I tried reinstalling everything, still the same result. Can somebody help? Is this a WinME problem? Question The complete rmaster.err file follows:

Looks like you've got a bad RDF. Probably one with an underscore in the name that doesn't have enough entries on the MapFile= line. It's probably the one that's referenced in the RemoteMaster.properties file. Look for the Remote.name= and Remote.signature= lines, those should help you identify which RDF is causing problems.

Uhh.. OK. Where is the RemoteMaster.properties file located? I have no file with that anywhere in the name. Where am I looking for these lines? In RemoteMaster.jar? In rmaster.err? In each potentially suspect rdf? I don't know what those "potential suspects" would be, but I guess I'll start with those where it says:
Got a multi-name remote!
names[ 0 ]="RS 15-2117"
names[ 1 ]="RS 15-2116"
Got a multi-name remote!
names[ 0 ]="RS 15-2117 Extender2"
names[ 1 ]="RS 15-2116 Extender2"

And if/when I should look in these rdfs, how do I recognize "enough" entries?

RemoteMaster.properties should be in the same directory as RemoteMaster.jar. This is the file that will have the Remote.name= and Remote.signature= in it.

No such file anywhere. Not in the installation directory, not anywhere on the computer, not in the RemoteMaster v0.81.zip distribution file, either.

How/when should this file get created?

it gets created/updated each time RM gets closed.

If there is no RemoteMaster.properties, it is going to try to use the first remote it knows, which means sorted by name (not signature) alphabetically.

OK, so apparently, the first rdf it encounters causes this to go kablooie and RM never opens, and subsequently never creates the RemoteMaster.properties file. I understand. So I deleted all of the rdfs except for the four that I am likely to use (15-1994 normal and extender 5, and 15-2116_2117 normal and extender 2).

Same thing happens. So...

I've looked at all of these, and there IS no "MapFile=" line in any of them. Now I have never looked in rdf files, so I don't know what's "normally" in there and what would be out of the ordinary, but many of the entries are sort of self-explanatory. What I CAN see, however, is that NONE of them has ANY "MapFile=" lines.

Do I need to modify the rdfs to include such a line?

you don't have to delete any rdf's. there's an entry where you can select which rdf's are "my remotes" so you don't have to dig thru a huge list. Once done, Rm will remember that even if Greg makes an update/upgrade. I wonder if Greg is referring to the image map entry, last line in the [General] settings. (imagemap=....). I don't have a 2116/7 so never looked at it's rdf. I'll check my copy to see if wgat greg is talking about is there.

Hmmmm, no underscore, but a hyphen in those like:
ImageMap=15-21172116.map
Name=RadioShack 15-2117 / 15-2116

You need the latest RM-compliant RDF's

Well, I was pretty darned sure that I had the latest rdf files, as I just took the zip files from my desktop (where everything works) and transferred them to my laptop Shocked , but apparently I transferred an outdated version of the rdf zip file. Embarassed

I'll transfer over the CORRECT rdf files and try again. Rolling Eyes

Thx to all.

Make sure you are using the latest version of RDF's for IR 3.50 or later and RM in the "Required tools section of jp1 - link below my name".

Let me know how you make out, I always worry when it sounds like RDF problems.
