Isn't the original remote the 223a? If so the gx315 in the dvd area should work.

If I where you I would test that file anyway. You can get a list of sony dvd functions here http://www.hifi-remote.com/sony/Sony_dvd.htm also. With learning not working is it maybe full.

Also check how much learning memory you have left after you download from IR, it should tell you. If it looks like you have memory left, have you tried the manufacturer reset to clear everything? It might be that an upgrade (or maybe an extender?) is causing the problem.

I did use the GX315 tried the 980 and 981 MFR reset , most functions DO WORK.

Regarding my remote's issue on no LEARNING, i have given up, i tried to switch batteries with new ones, erased whatever upgrade codes where there, THERE WHERE NO LEARNED KEYS STORED.
here is the summary on the memory usage that says in the lower part of IR's widow:

Move MAcro (201 free)
Upgrade (579 Free)
Learned (1021 Free)

Do you have any other option that i could do to try to make it work so i can do the upgrade myself Exclamation Exclamation ?

Regards
