9960B01 Extender Status

Is there any news on when the 9960 B01 extender may be available?

Hi tg0905...

I've placed a similar question in another thread a couple of weeks ago, and Nils Ekberg, the Kameleon's Guru himself,

replied my question and wrote that he's very close with that Extender... he was just trying to track and nail down some stability problems (...whatever that means...) before the release...

So, our wishes may be fulfilled soon, but I'm sure this is not easy stuff and we must be patient...

I had missed that thread. I just read it (Updated RDFs, Maps, and Images Ver 1.25) in software forum.

That's great news. I recently purchased the Kameleon 8RF (9960B01). It has the new small base unit. I would like to use some of the features that the extender provides like ToadTog, faster macros and keymove to FAV button.

Joe,
Maybe you should send Nils, the Kameleon's Guru a case of Peroni. The last thread I read was on Aug 5th when Nils was "very close" but was having “stability” problems.

Honest, I have not forgotten or given up on it at all. Just been real busy with work and had a laptop problem when I switched from my old company laptop to my new company laptop. I am actually getting a replacement for it today.

Holiday weekend coming so maybe I will get to work on it soon.

Nils, every post you make on the matter brings new hope for the extender to see the light soon...

As I said, I'm sure it's not easy stuff and, of course, there is the job, the family, the recalcitrating computers and hundreds of other good reasons to be late on a project... well, don't worry... I'm not in a hurry and the current Kam configuration is just OK... I can afford waiting!

Thanks for the update Nils. I knew you hadn't forgotten about the extender. I seem to recall that you mentioned that you have 4 or 5 Kameleons so I know you have a vested interest in the B01 extender.

Could sombody tell me the differences between URC-9960B00 and 9960B01 in terms of extender functionality? I am asking this to understand why B01 extenders are not coming soon, while there exists B00 extender.

These two remotes are completely different remotes, despite the fact that they look the same and each new remote requires a brand new extender, you can't simply grab an extender for an existing remote, tweek a few variables and be ready to go.

The only thing the two remotes have in common is their physical appearance. If you can understand that the (let's say) URC-8811 and URC-8910 are different remotes, then these two are different in the same way. They have different sized EEPROMs and the MCU chips are loaded with completely different firmware with different setup codes and features.

If you look in the RDF, you'll see that one of them uses 0x00 as a terminator whereas the other uses 0xFF. One of them uses 3 digit EFCs whereas the other uses 5 digit, etc, etc.

So, if you can accept that you cannot port the extender for the URC-8811 over to the URC-8910 (for example), then it's the same with the B00 and B01 versions of the URC-9960.

Now I understand that B00 is completely different from B01.

Could you tell me what do we need to know when we are writing an extender for a specific remote from UEI?

Could you tell me what design features of a remote may make the extender developer's life more enjoyable than before?

I am asking this to implement such design faetures on a new remote based on UEI Generic IR Blaster chip(Samsung CPU with flash memory), so that we may create extenders with various capabilities easily and economically.

I'm not an extender writer so someone else will have to answer that.

Do you know which model of chip you will be using (ie, the Samsung flash chip)?

Hello Robman,

The chip will be a Samsung S3C80 family.

The decision to use onboard flash memory or external eeprrom depends on the availability of extenders.

Could you recommend whom(and which track) to ask my questions?
