Been gone too long - need to add XB360 remote functionality
Man, it feels like years since I've been here.
Anyway, I have long since lost all of the applications I used to use to hack my remote and now it just looks all foreign.
I installed IR and managed to at least download my setup from my remote...so at least I have a backup.
I would love to add Xbox 360 Universal Remote funcationality to my OneForAll URC-8811 but I completely forget how to do any of this.
Would somebody be so kind as to simply list the steps needed to add XB360 functions to my remote and I'm sure I can work out all of the details once my memory comes back to me?
I'm trying to add XB360 to the AUX section, but I don't even know where to start...
Thanks for any and all replies.

So far so good!
I'm back in the game thanks to your help. I have the new TV working marvellously as well as complete control over my Xbox 360 and even when using it in Media Center mode. Life is good
The only thing I'm missing is discrete power on/off codes for the Xbox 360...can't seem to find them anywhere or even if they exist.

There's a discussion about discrete power on Xbox here:

It sounds like someone created a CCF file for it, and maybe you can start with that.
I don't have Xbox, but I happened to find that thread when I was looking for something else, so I don't think I can be of much help beyond that.

Yeah, it sounds like TOAD...but that would still be ok since I would almost never be turning off my console with the front panel button.
This thread looks promising:

But nobody has replied yet.
Man, I had forgotten how much fun this remote hacking was
I'm also trying to track down some special codes for my new 52" LG LCD projection TV that are missing from the LG Master Code file I found here.

I guess that must not be the best place to ask a JP1 question.Talus wrote: This thread looks promising:

Since you pointed it out, I tried replying (to the "convert these codes to upload to my JP1 remote" question) but I would need to login first. Not worth the trouble of figuring out. JP1 questions should be asked here not there.
Hopefully this thread has already told you how to create or modify an MCE upgrade in RM or KM.
So I guess you want to know what to do with Pronto Hex samples, such as those in that thread at hometheaterforum.
You need DecodeIR.dll plus the JP1 version of IrTool.exe. You can paste Pronto Hex into IrTool and get a decode from DecodeIr.
The Pronto Hex in the first post of that other thread decode as MCE:4:15 followed by the OBC number (different for each function). That means MCE protocol, device 4, OEM2 code 15.
In the second post they decode as MCE:116.15 followed by the OBC number.
I forget the details of how device numbers work in the XBOX 360, but I'm sure you can find that in some post, figure it out, or test it.
So in a JP1 upgrade, use a single device number (4 or 116 or whatever you think is right) with OEM2 code 15 and whatever OBC number you want from either or both of those posts (or many other sources).
But I'm pretty sure whoever wrote the first post in that hometheaterforum thread was confused about discrete on and off. The codes posted there for discrete on and off are actually both the power toggle signal but with opposite states of the mce toggle bit. A simple test would make those seem to be discrete power commands, but in real use they wouldn't work. The problem would be exactly as described in post 101 and 107 of that thread at rc. The other posts there that think they have isolated the issue are wrong. Those two signals are NOT discrete On Off signals. They only sometimes act discrete and when they do they might be swapped.

Ok, I think I have enough info to test it out..thanks for the info and links!johnsfine wrote:I forget the details of how device numbers work in the XBOX 360, but I'm sure you can find that in some post, figure it out, or test it.
I guess I couldn't figure out which of your labels referred to what functions on my remote. But after some playing around, I think I have them all sorted out.whompus wrote:About your LG. I am not sure what codes you are talking about. The only code I know of that is missing is efc 108. which is descrete for component 2.
The only real problem I'm left with at this time is that the remote feels VERY unresponsive when controlling the XB360. The wireless controller the console comes with works fine and it feels nice and responsive. But when I'm using my universal remote with the device and protocol upgrades, it seems like I have to either hold the button down or press it multiple times for the command to be recognized. I'm going to say that my normal button presses are recognized about 1/3 of the time.
Any thoughts on that?

I assume this is the file that you're using for the LG:

If the TV is un-responsive sometimes to the signal, maybe we need to amp up the "duty cycle" from 33% to 50% or more. This device uses the NEC1 protocol, but you wouldn't want to load a complete copy of the $005A executor, so someone would need to make a new NEC1 executor with the higher duty cycle for you.

But the un-responsiveness issue is with the XB360, and not the TV.
Thanks for the reply though.
Maybe someday I can learn about changing the 'duty cycle' for the MCE/XB360 device.
At least it's good to know that I'm not the only one...if I get the actual remote for the XB360, I'll let you know so that maybe I can run some tests and figure some things out.
In the meantime, it'll drive my wife NUTS. And we ALL know that in order for our wives to accept these hacked remotes that we like to play with that they have to be pretty much easy-to-use.
