|

Have followed instructions in "How Easy is it..." to create an upgrade for my new UC-9910B remote: have the following issue:
For Sony RM-YD005 remote (for Sony TV KDL-40S2000) I am receiving multipe protocols and multiple OBC and Hex Cmd codes for several of the buttons.
Posted a file in the diagnosis area several days ago, (http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=3709) along with a message in this forum, but have had no response.
The following file was posted today:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=3731
Am I providing sufficient information? If not, please let me know what I need to do to get some help.
Thanks from an ignorant newbie!

I have a few suggestions. Maybe one of them will help:
1) There are only two OBCs for each button. Why not just try each one in your upgrade to see which one works?
2) Have you checked to see if an upgrade already exists in the file section?
3) For Sony codes, I have had good success with the following web page from Rob's site:

Thanks for the reply.
Some (menu, fwd, play) have more than one OBC, or have error messages.
As for the Sony site, I have looked there but not had any luck. Will try again.
Thanks again. |

I looked at those learned signals. A couple are so bad they don't decode. The rest have a single Sony decode per key.
Menu is just Sony12, device 1, OBC 96. The learning failed to detect the repeat pattern so it shows multiple frames. That doesn't change the meaning.
FWD is really messed up, I don't see what it is. But it has no decodes, so no OBCs, not multiple.
Play is just Sony15, device 119, OBC 13. "Gap" decodes should usually be ignored and this is a usual case. I expect the OBC in the gap decode was the "more than one OBC" confusing you. Ignore it.
I see device 119, OBC 13 is NOT included in the expected place:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/sony/Sony_tv.htm#tve
So I guess you need to redo the really bad learns (VOL+ and FWD) rather than just look them up on that site.
Once you have all the Sony device number and OBC number pairs, you may need help with a Sony combo protocol. If so, give that list when asking. |

The FWD button that failed to learn correctly looks like OBC 59, probably device 1 (definitely not device 119, 151 nor 164).
It looks sort of like the failure to learn was due to bad batteries in the Sony remote, but maybe due to having the wrong distance between the two remotes during learning. I'm not sure what the best distance is. It may vary depending on the pair of remotes involved. I think the usual recomendation is two to four inches. |

I usually respond to those, so I reread it to see why I hadn't.
That message was:

It's unfortunate that IR.exe phrases the request to post such files the way it does. We never know whether the user posted a file just to give us samples as requested by IR.exe, or whether specific help is needed.
Your post didn't make that clear either. And with just one very bad learn from the TV it's quite hard to deduce anything.
In context of the second file, I can tell the L1 key in the first file is OBC 37 with the same learning flaw as FWD in the second file. |

Thanks for the advice. I will keep working with the learning, but it may be a while before I have the time. When I get the chance, I will report back with the results.
Thanks again for taking the time to reply. |

Put fresh batts in the Sony remote, and the Menmu and Fwd commands were learned correctly!
Thanks for the insight, johnsfine. I will keep working on this. |

OK, have mad soem progress. Now on to issues with Remote Master.
First, when I start Remote Master, I get an error screen labeled Remote Code Error. When I click OK, Remote Master starts. When loading the information at the start up tab, my remote is not in the list.
Is there a problem with the RDF files I have downloaded? Can I enter a remote that is not in the list.
Thanks. |

Duh, excuse the newbie brain fart. I need to enter the remote I am programming, not the Sony remote. Still get the error message, though. |

The error lists what appears to be java errors. There is a screen full, so I can;t list them here. I start the program by clicking the .jar file.
After I close the error screen, Remote Master seems to be working OK. I have loaded several upgrades, and even created one. All are working. |

I get that a lot and should have taken the time to diagnosis, but I haven't yet. Sorry.
From my limited basic knowledge of RM I'm fairly sure it blew up as a result of reading something it didn't understand from some RDF file. But after you click OK, that doesn't turn out to be the RDF you select, so it did no lasting harm.
My collection of RDF files is rather strange as I use a single directory for all RDF files, but access them from multiple release and test versions of IR and RM.
So I would expect my RDF directory to have crap that confuses RM. I wouldn't expect your RDF directory to. But the error sure sounds like what I get. |
