Lost in java or someplace please help

Post by ElizabethD »

I'm hopelessly lost in RM environment.
On one computer, I used to have the webstart version. Now the icon is missing from the desktop. Why? HOW can it be missing? How to get it back? I haven't used it for a while and have absolutely no clue why it would vanish.
On another computer I used to have normal, standard v1.68 and several previous versions. That won't run, not even setup. It doesn't know what to use to run setup.bat.
What is going on? I know it's not RM's fault or anything. I just don't understand what's going on and no clue how to fix or where to look.

All I want to do is look at one file. So I looked for the webstart version 1.63 and can't find that either.

Then I thought I'll start from scratch. Well, java tells me it's gonna take an hour to download runtime v9 at 1 or 3 or 5 KB/sec. I normally DL at 5meg/sec.This is not my day.

Windows XP has a feature which moves icons into a "Unused Desktop shortcuts" folder on the desktop if they aren't used for a period of time. Maybe check in there and see if it's available that way.

No, icons didn't move because I didn't have any. I run by double click on filename. Good point though.
 I messed up on my XP computer trying to use from a wrong drive letter or virtual or something equally dumb.
On the work computer, where I confused two computers (hey they all look the same), - by policy -, it vanished  it can always go back
