Robman, Sony GX315 DVD recorder - "finalize" butto
Here is a newbie question.
I have a Sony GX315 without a remote. Can a JP1 remote, when programmed, be used to record and finalize on a DVD recorder? I have 2 Sony universal remotes and was told by Sony that a universal remote can not be used to finalize.

If the commands you want are listed on this site:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/sony/
then it is easy to program them with a JP1 remote.
If they aren't then it may be much harder (the hard part being finding out what the desired IR signals are).
Within that site there seem to be DVD recorder functions at:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/sony/Sony_dvd.htm#dvdb
Do you know the names of the buttons you want to use from the original remote (that you don't have)? That would make them easier to find in CCF files or other online sources.
Which Sony universal remotes do you have? The kind programmed by a PC via USB cable? Or the kind only programmed stand alone using its own buttons?
Generally customer support at a company such as Sony would have no clue about this sort of advanced question. So I'd give no weight to what they told you. But I still would expect the signals you want probably need a universal remote (such as a JP1 remote or a Sony AX4000 or a Pronto etc.) that can be programmed by a PC. Those signals are much less likely to be in the built-in library of an ordinary universal remote.
If you don't yet have a PC programmable universal remote, the JP1 remotes are less expensive, but generally better than other brands. (If you already have a Sony AX4000 universal remote, I recently learned how to program it with any of the Sony signals from that page I mentioned above).

I have a Sony DVD recorder, so if the codes for FINALIZE, etc are not listed, I can learn them and post them.

I had a Sony RDR-GX7. I could have sworn you need to go into a "tools" menu, or something like that, and choose finalize using the arrow and select keys, once inside that menu.
Isn't there a Sony DVD recorder upgrade file in the Files Section? I'm pretty sure I had uploaded my GX7 file a while back. I'll bet a dollar it works with the newer models.

I'll bet you a dollar that the GX7 file will work with your Sony DVD recorder.
It is almost always the case that manufacturers use the same codes for all products of a specific type, year after year. Sometimes they add a few new codes for specific new functions. (A case in point seems to be the "finalize" function. One used to have to go through a menu to get there.) But, generally, they remain the same, year after year.

Cindy, did you decide to get a JP1 remote, or is this a closed issue now?CindyD wrote:Here is a newbie question.

I just wanted to say that I used the GX7 upgrade for my rdr-gx330 which is the model after the GX315. All I needed to do was change the subdevice numbers. so I'm sure that with if someone will learn a few keys to find out what the subdevice numbers are for the GX315, you'll be very happy with your JP1 remote.
