My apologies. Here's the information.
1. Device: Sima Model VS-502
2. Type of device: Audio/Video Switcher
3. Year: 2004
4. JP1 Remote model: Slingbox
5. JP1 user? yes
6. Still have original remote? yes
7. Checked the file section? yes
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? No
9. Partially working setup code? No
10. Learning remote question? none
In the file section there are 2 downloads for the Sima SVS-4 (an older model) but they don't work with the VS-502 when I create a binary upgrade with RM 1.6 and upload to my Slingbox.
Any help is appreciated.

It would appear that your only recourse is to get a learning JP1 remote and cable and learn the signals from the OEM remote and create a new upgrade.
There are many more benefits to having a JP1 remote, like actually using it in the house, but tat's up to you to decide.
Robman will sell you a cheap-o learner and cable (8910 + simple cable) for as little as $35. Check out the first sticky post in the Marketplace section.

Okay thanks, I'll do that. Just to confirm, is this what I need?
RC-8910 - $20 (latest B02 version - see note #2 below)
JP1 USB Cables - $35 (in stock)
I assume a USB cable is more convenient that a parallel cable?

Yes, you need (1) a remote, and (2) a cable. What type of cable depends on what ports you computer has.
I've never had nor used a USB JP1 cable, but my sense from reading these fora is that there seem to be quite a few problems getting the USB cables and drivers to work in some configurations. If you have a parallel port, the simple parallel cable is cheaper and (in my opinion) seems to have less problems.
(Also, read that marketplace sticky post carefully. It very clearly describes the various shipping and payment options, but there are multiple variations so pay attention to the details)

Based on other Sima switches, I'm pretty sure that is NEC1 protocol, device 0, and the commands they list are the hex values of the OBC numbers (so Auto_tog is OBC 11, and Ply_N05 is OBC 10).
The "IR_Addr_Lo EQU 0xFF" if correct, would mean the subdevice should be left blank. That is different from other Sima switches I have data on.
The SVS-4 upgrades should (I haven't checked) have 63 in the subdevice field but otherwise be about the same as the data you quoted above.
If that "FF" is correct, the is why the SVS-4 upgrade failed. But maybe the FF is incorrect and you made some operational error in loading or testing that upgrade. |

A limited subset of the JP1 experts understand the mechanics of getting an upgrade into a Slingbox. I'm NOT one of those.
For the parts of your question that are Slingbox specific (rather than about the Sima, etc.) you should read some of the basics in the JP1 Slingbox forum:

and if necessary ask your Slingbox questions there.

For the numbers 01 through 09, the hex value and the decimal (OBC) value are the same thing. For the other two, I gave you the converted OBC.
If you need to do other Hex to decimal conversions, you can use Windows calculator in view/scientific mode.

I assume you mean an order to Rob. The marketplace forum is open to all buyers and sellers of JP1 related products. Each has his own ordering process. Rob as one of those sellers (same person, different activity from Rob as owner of these forums) seems to have made his ordering process clear in his sticky post describing items available. |

What do you mean you "couldn't get [them] to load"? Can you not assign the desired device code to the Slingbox, or does it assign, but not work? If it only doesn't work, then you haven't built the upgrade correctly:
As John explains above:

So you take one of the SVS-4 upgrades, ensure that the device=0, and subdevice is blank. Verify/assign the OBCs to functions as above. Assign the functions to buttons on the Slingbox in RM.
If you can't even assign the upgrade in the Slingbox, then that's a different problem.

The first post in that Marketplace sticky thread, if you're talkin about Rob's remotes, tells you everything. Just remit payment to the appropriate PayPal account. Each transaction has a remarks field, so you tell Rob what you are ordering.

I finally looked at an SVS4 upgrade. It is further from matching the above OBC list than I initially thought.
This tends to rule out my earlier guess that the two models were the same and the differences were a flaw in the info from Sima tech support.
But I still think the SVS4 upgrade is relevent for supporting the guess that it is NEC1 protocol, and the guess that bit sequence is NEC standard (so the documented hex translates directly to OBC number).
It should be easy to make a new upgrade with the specified protocol, device, (lack of) subdevice, and OBC numbers. It would be equally easy to start with the SVS4 upgrade and make all those changes.
It sounds like the current roadblock is in the process of installing/selecting an upgrade into the Slingbox. |

Thanks for your patience. I made the OBC changes but again the upgrade won't load to the Slingbox. I've made Slingbox upgrades before so I'm not sure why the Sima ones won't load. Perhaps they're too big for the Slingbox memory. I'll post this in the Slingbox forum.
Thanks for your help with the marketplace.
PS - After creating the keys and mappings in RM, how do I save a text-based upgrade file?

In RM, you don't save a .txt file, that's only KM. RM saves its upgrades as RMDU files, which you access from the File>Save menu. (Also, the default settings for RM usually prompt you to save your upgrade file when you try to exit.)
