Need to 'reset' my Kenwood VR-507 RC-R0720

Post by Daven »

Fairly new to this. Made my own JP1 cable, and it's working fine. :)

I have a Kenwood VR-507 receiver with it's original RC-R0720 remote.
Here's my problem. A couple of years ago I was manually adding a device to the remote, and afterwards the receiver portion of te remote no longer worked. That is, if I push the receiver device key none of the buttons affect the receiver. The other device keys (DVD, CBL, TV) all work as expected.

I've changed the batteries. I've observed the remote with a digital camera, and it is working when in receiver mode. I've opened the remote in IR.exe, and I can successfully change device codes. I've reset the receiver following the manufacturer's instructions.

I've tried (in IR) all the Kenwood receiver codes listed in my manual (and a few others from similar remotes). I've manually rolled through all the receiver codes. In short, nothing works. (Long-winded, but I want to head off the common suggestions to save time)

What I'm hoping for is somebody to make available their VR-507's default .IR file. I gather I could do something similar with KM, but the only copies of Excel I have access to do not have the Analysis Pack.

Thanks in advance!

I don't know how "original" this file is, but it does have an OEM code assigned to the RCVR button, so I'm hopefull that that is the code you need.

Missing code was half the problem

I tried the OEM code, and still no good. So, I searched the web thinking I'd buy somebody's remote and stumbled on http://resnet.uoregon.edu/~gurney_j/kenwoodrepair . Basically, there are three solder joints on the receiver itself that need to be reseated.

At any rate with 20 minutes of tinkering, my receiver is back in business. 8)

None of the codes in the manual worked -- only OEM 0022 that Rob posted. Thanks!!

The moral is: don't forget to verify that the hardware is working.
