USB-RS232 converter

Post by tideman76 »

Hello all, I appreciate the help I have received over the last year. I built the parallel interface cable and everything worked great and then I lost the cable. I decided to then build the serial cable because I knew my laptop didn't have a parallel port, but lo and behold, my laptop didn't have a RS232 serial port. All I have are USB ports. Since I have the RS232 cable built and tested on a machine with a serial port, can I use a USB-RS232 converter with the RS232 JP1 cable? Or more exactly, does anyone have experience with this working?

Thanks,

You can try it, but I don't think it will work, as IR "bit bangs", so needs direct hardware access to the port, something likely not achievable on a USB adapter.
