Managed to aquire a remote: Gateway 8509153

It appears to behave very close to the cinema 7 OFA remotes.
The battery compartment has the 6 pin header, and i was wondering if anyone can confirm that this is a jp1 capable device.

Does anyone know of any limitations? I cannot seem to program my JVC tv (0053 is the only code listed) into the remote. When i type the 4th digit, I get a "long" LED instead of the double blink.

Also, is anyone in Pittsburgh PA area willing to let me come over and attach my remote(s) to your cable/computer? (or borrow the cable, your preference)

That remote is a Cat48 remote, so in all likelyhood it is JP1 compatible. The only reason that it wouldn't be JP1 compatible is if this particular model uses the new JP1.2 flash chip, but I haven't heard of that being the case with any of the Gateway remotes yet.

There appear to be no good ID markings on the remote.
I searched for gateway remotes. eventually i figured out via code search that my marantz amp was 1189, and did a search for 1189 and marantz on google and found the manual to "really similar" remote at gateway.

later I did a hunch and typed in all the devices "amp cd dvd tv sat ... tnr"
I think the "tnr" is what cinched it. I may have added gateway to the search.

btw... http://www.hifi-remote.com/shop/ seems to harbor mostly broken links.

now to find a jp1 cable locally.

I had forgotten that that page was even there, it's something that I started but never finished. I don't think I've ever posted a link to it and I certainly don't update it.

I do keep my "for sale" thread up to date though.

I might have noticed my remote had a striking resemblance to the catalyst 48 series. ;)

I havn't seen much info on the cat48s... though i found a link to upgrade the "outlaw" remote to learn in the old yahoogroup. It looks like i shouldn't have to do that. Havn't tried to learn, but the gateway manual (assuming i have the right one) seems to indicate that it is able.
is the cat48 Any good?

I wish i knew what was up with the "JVC 0053" code.
Perhaps the tv device has been programmed to a different device...
maybe i'll do a complete reset (980?) when i get home.
(or just wait till i get the cable and see what's going on directly)

My cinema7 is starting to have trouble. the "tv" button doesn't work any longer and it sometimes goes into some sleep mode. (not batteries from what i can tell)

I'll have to find some defroster paint at some point and recoat the pad.
If the cat48 works, i might not need to. just move the c7 upstairs where the quirks will affect me less. ;)

If your Cinema 7 is a URC-7800, then it's a learning remote. With a JP1 cable you should be able to learn the signals from any of your devices using the URC-7800 which will let you see exactly what signals they use. You can then use this info to build yourself new upgrades.

If you want to fix the buttons, try this stuff...

The Cat48s are pretty good remotes, so it's worth going the JP1 route with it.

I would advise against doing any resets until you are able to back up the data with a JP1 cable as you never know what you will be deleting and you'll have no way to recover.

My cinema 7 is a 7800B00... it doesn't have the male pins to work with the cable I borrowed.

The Gateway remote does, and i am able to communicate with it.
I've downloaded IR (6.15).... IR knows about it (CA48C480 (Gateway TV remote).rdf) so i have some control... looks like KM doesn't support the remote though.

Does anyone know of a remote choice that can be used in KM?

I've briefly looked through the km txt files and they don't seem to have contact info... I'll be looking further and in the forums to see if i can find it there and see if support for the remote can be made, or if i missed it somehow.

so anyway, rob, in the thread i mentioned above, you said you were
flushing out the rdf for the cat48 that you had.

Either I'm doing something wrong, or we have different
remote layouts.
when I dl from the remote, the buttons list in this order:
1:tv 2:tv2 3:vcr 4:dvd 5:amp 6:aux 7:cd 8:cbl
I don't have several of those buttons.
I have the following layout: (with the button # to which they map)
1:CBL 4:DVD 3:VCR 2:TV
8:SAT 5:CD 7:AMP 6:TNR

From learning some signals, I found some other name differences.

The listing for OK (as show in ir) is called SET on my remote. (button inside the arrow grouping)

The following "mappings" are for the bottom 3x4 matrix of buttons.
MTS CH.LOCK SLEEP.TIMER RESET
TV AV1 AV2 AV3
COMPONENT1 COMPONENT2 RGB DVI

(see the PDF manual pages 6-9, for a picture with all buttons)

TV shows as zoom, AV1 shows as freeze, AV2 as pip_scan,AV3 as audio

What can i do to help create a RDF file that has my button mappings?
should I learn something on each button and see what IR calls it?
if I saw the layout your remote control, I could probably just edit the RDF file to match.
in other threads, it recommends posting a dump of the remote from IR to have someone generate a rdf from it... I could do that, but i would think that it might not be needed, since it isn't a brand new remote type.
