Got a new DVD player, Bravo D2, and quickly discovered that when I hit the Volume Down button on my OFA 9910 in addition to changing the volume for my JVC receiver my DVD player also skips to next chapter on the DVD. Apparantly they both use the same IR code.
Any suggestions on how to deal with this scenario?

There's no easy solutions for this one, and as the NEC1-dev0 signal is becoming quite popular, this is probably not the last overlap that you're likely to find either.

John's right that a JVC device is very unlikely to use the NEC1-dev0 signal, but none the less, the JVC obviously thinks that such a signal is close enough that it reacts to it. Other that getting a new DVD player, there really isn't much that we can do to help here.

If no other major keys (and the volume keys are pretty major) are affected and no other more creative solution or work-around is suggested then would this help?:
Assign a macro to the RCVR Volume Down button:
Mute - Vol Up - Vol Up - Vo lUp - Vol Up
The idea here being to take the volume down to an acceptable level and then you can use Vol Up to get to exact level.
Alternatively, does the DVD player have a volume control for its output?

That answers a lot of questions. So we can discard all theories about learned signals or other unintended strange programming on the vol down key of the 9910.bullfrog wrote: The factory remote exhibits the same behavior.
It the other way around, isn't it? The JVC works right. The DVD takes a particular signal JVC:163:31 that looks nothing like an NEC1:0:xx signal but somehow interprets it as such. The Robman wrote:the JVC obviously thinks that such a signal is close enough that it reacts to it.
BTW, Rob leaped to NEC1:0, I assume from "Bravo D2". Was that correct? It is certainly plausible, but it's better to be sure. What built-in code or upgrade are you using for the DVD? I would especially like to know which signal (protocol:device:obc) matches the behavior that is incorrectly triggered by JVC:163:31
Probably there's no good solution. But I'm not sure yet. There may be a way to construct a signal that the JVC would still recognise as JVC:163:31 but the DVD wouldn't take.
Thanks for your help with this. Here is some more info.
Johnsfine, I think you are on the right track. Because although the Volume Down on the JVC remote operates the Next Track on the Bravo, the reverse is not true. The Bravo remote Next Track has no affect on the JVC volume. So it does sound as if the Bravo is misinterpreting the JVC code.
I learned both these buttons from the factory remotes and uploaded to IR and here are the codes.
JVC 163 31 07 250 = JVC Receiver Down Volume
NEC1 165 76 CD 036 = Bravo D2 Next Track

With the additional information I posted above, do you have any suggestions?
