Whic UEI remote to buy?

Post by fonz »

Is there a UEI remote comparable to an Osiris MX-350?

I posted a topic in another forum about the MX-350 and found out that it is not JP1 compatible. I have had many JP1 learning remotes in the past but have just now gotten into using the features/advantages of JP1 and really like the tools that are available. I had worked for a company who had been selling customers MX-350 remotes and found them very useful, but it would be nice to be able to customize them a little more.

So, since I am a beginner with UEI, I would like to get suggestions on what UEI remotes might be comparable to an MX-350 or just simple suggestions on what UEI remotes to stay away from or which are favorites.

I have been to www.uei.com, but it looks like they have four different product lines: One for All, Kameleon, Nevo, and Simple Devices. It looks like that I'd probably be interested in the "Premium Learning Line" models URC 8910 or URC 9910, or the Kameleon URC 9960. I'm guessing that the Nevo is completely different and not JP1?? And probably in a whole different price range??

My main needs would be to find a learning remote that is reasonably priced, is fully supported with the JP1 tools that are readily available, and has a nice user interface, something like the LCD screen on the MX-350.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm guessing that most people here don't know what an "MX-350 Osiris" is, so they wouldn't be able to say which JP1 remote is most like it, so I am posting a pic of the remote below. If you click on the pic it will take you to a site where you can buy the remote for $150.

As far as price goes, there aren't any JP1 remotes that cost anywhere near that much, so you'll be looking at a cheaper remote whichever one you chose.

If you need the RF extender feature of the MX-350, the equivilent JP1 remotes are the URC-9910, 15-2117 and the latest version of the URC-9960 Kameleon (I forget it's model number).

None of the JP1 remotes have customizable screens like the MX- remotes, but if you want some sort of LCD screen, you need to look at the URC-8910, URC-9910, 15-2116, 15-2117.

If you don't need the LCD screen or the RF extender, you can also consider the URC-8811.

I can sell you the URC-8811 or the URC-8910 for $20 each (plus $4 shipping).

So, what's the LCD screen used for on the URC 8910?

It shows you what mode (ie, TV, VCR, SAT, etc) the remote is in, and you use it to program the remote.
