Moded 6131 remote interface fails

Post by wmaxwell11 »

Just bought a modified 6131nw from Surf Remot Control. When I try downloading from the remote I recieve " The interface appears to have failed midway into the operation. If you are using the simple interface, please verify that you are using 1K (Brn-Blk-Red) rather than 10K (Brn-Blk-Org) resistors. Another cause of this problem could be the use of an EEPROM larger than $8000 ( the maximum size supported by IR). This interface has no problems communicating with my 15-1994. Help.

Have you checked the obvious (batteries, correct RDF etc.)?
Where did you get the JP1 cable from?
Does your cable indeed have a 10K resistor instead of a 1K (because this might work with some remotes but not with all)?
Have you asked Surf Rmot about it?

The more information posted in the original question, the more likely you are to get a satisfactory answer.

As an aside, here's a useful online Resistor Color Code Calculator for anyone interested in DIY electronics but who can't always remember the codes.

My apologies. I hadn't checked the resistors. The interface is several years old and I didn't realize that the resistors had changed. After replacing the resistors ( and getting the "fixed" rdf) the remote works as expected.
