Daewoo DS-2500N DVD player
1. Device: Daewoo DS-2500N DVD player
2. Type of device: DVD player
3. Year: 2001
4. JP1 Remote model: URC-7200
5. JP1 user? I have a JP1 cable
6. Still have original remote? NO
7. Checked the file section? YES all files listed for daewoo are for other models of DVD players made by TYT or GVG. I tried them none work.My player was made by Alphacast and appears to be the only player they ever made for Daewoo.
8. Checked the Pronto file section (at R/C)? Yes, same as above
9. Partially working setup code? NO
10. Learning remote question? NOT a Learning Remote.
If someone out there with this model's remote and a learning remote can give me just the Protocol ID and Dev or Fixed Data I can probably figure out the rest. This player is old but it has the coveted 4318f chip with macro free cs4954 and a replaceable IDE loader. I need the remote to make it region free.
It was made by Alphacast of Korea and I have seen one actual picture of the same model with an Alphacast Label DVP-100. I have also seen a Harmony remote list with the Alphacast brand listed but I have no idea how to obtain codes from Harmony.
Please help . My next alternative is to cycle through all of the possible combinations of the NEC1 protocol which I am guessing it used. Not knowing the DEV or Fixed Data makes this a big chore.
Thanks.

I don't know what to tell you. The best I can suggest is that you try and find someone else who has this player and then see if you can convince them to loan you their remote.
I just checked ebay to see if anyone's selling this player and there aren't any listed, though I did find one that recently ended with a $1 selling price!

For anyone else looking for the region free hack instructions, here they are...
There is a discussion forum for this player here:

According to this thread from march 2002, this model was originally sold at Costco. I doubt that it's still sold there, but it wouldn't hurt to call them and ask. If they still have it, you could pick yourself up a JP1 learning remote and go capture the signals for yourself.

Re: Need code Daewoo DS-2500N DVD player or just the protoco
Good news and bad news:tennisman wrote:My next alternative is to cycle through all of the possible combinations of the NEC1 protocol which I am guessing it used. Not knowing the DEV or Fixed Data makes this a big chore.
Thanks.
First the good news - a quick glance at Daewoo DVD upgrades in the File Section suggests that there is a good chance that the prtocol and Dev number are NEC1 and Dev0 respectively.
Now for the bad news - NEC1, Dev0 is used to control just about every cheap DVD on the market these days and the actual button codes appear to be pretty much random. You can safely assume, however, that the buttons that you need will have OBCs from 0 to 31 and then from 64 to 95.
Remember when testing that some codes that "don't work" actually do work but it's just that another button must precede them (e.g. you might fire off a succesful code for the up arrow key but it won't show an action unless you have preceded it with the menu command) so try all the codes and take careful notes and then go back and try again once you know the codes for menu etc.
Thanks for the Region free info. When I get a working remote I'll give it a try. I noticed the Ebay DVD player was also sold without the remote.
Thanks also for the NEC1Dev0 suggestion. I tried many combinations with no success so far.
I called UEI and they said they have a setup code 1234 for this specific Daewoo model DS-2500N. However it is not programmed on any remote currently being sold. They said I would have to send a new one into them to be programmed. So I guess I'm off to Walmart to buy a 6131nw and send it into them for upgrade. When I get it back in a couple of weeks and if it works I'll post the code on this board.

If DVD/1234 is the correct code, I can get the relevant info from UEI myself, but you would need a JP1 remote to load it into. You say that you have a JP1 cable, but your URC-7200 remote is not JP1-capable, unless you've soldered in a connector.
I could pre-load the code into one of the remotes that I sell for you if you like.

Thanks Robman, I did solder in the JP1 connector to the 7200 and it works great with all 4 batteries in use. I would appreciate the info on the setup code 1234 as it would save me a lot of time and a little money.
I also soldered up a JP1 connector to a RS-2102 which contrary to the Remotes chart does have access to the reset line. I am preparing some diagrams to post to show the attachment points.

I'll see if I can get the code details from UEI tomorrow. As for the 15-2102, there's very little interest in this remote. Way back when, somebody went to the same effort that you did to add a conenctor only to discover that the remote doesn't support upgrades, at which point we all lost interest in it. After all, what good is a JP1 remote that doesn't support upgrades???

You're absolutely right about the 2102. Is there a way that the internal ROM can be dumped or changed out with that from another remote?
I also have a 7200 and a Direct TV(blue) both upgradeable and have a working JP1 cable. If you have the DVD code 1234 details from UEI I would appreciate it. They wouldn't give them to me when I called. Thanks.
