keys not available URC-44AxxxB02

Post by slugworth »

I was trying to get coolsat codes into a urc-44axxxb02 comcast version,
and I noticed there are keys on the remote that can't be mapped. That was
using both keymaster and remote master. I wanted to use the yellow, blue,
red keys for the corresponding keys on coolsat.
There are also keys "under the hood" that can't be mapped.
There are keys that are labeled differently. I ended up using the 4 lower
right corner keys for the colored keys under the hood for the colored buttons.
Is this because it's a comcast version of the remote?

Remotes with model numbers like that are either Navigators or Millenium 4s (I forget which). These are "off the shelf" remotes that UEI supplies to cable companies where the custom buttons have different physical labels for each application, even though they are still the same buttons internally.

So, if the bottom left button (for example) is labelled "ANGLE" on the remote that was used to create the RDF and it's labelled "WIDE" on your remote, assigning a function to ANGLE in RM or KM will result in the function actually appearing on your WIDE button. You follow?

If possible, could you take a picture of this remote with the sliding cover either removed or at least in the open position and post it here in the file section. Also, post a copy of your IR file so we can try and guess which variation of the remote you have (as there are several).

devices

Post by slugworth »

I always selected cable in remote master, I didn't realize if you select
different devices some keys are/are not available.
I was able to get the coolsat into it, I thought I could also squeeze the
microyal data. There are 4 device buttons: cable, vcr,tv,and audio.
IR515 lets you remap the audio button it would seem, but this technique
didn't work. The number keys wouldn't work. This is strange because the number pad even for audio seemed to be supported. Some of the other keys didn't work either.
I tried taking pictures, they didn't come out.
The f1,f2,f3 keys are labeled a,b,c and are yellow, blue, red.
The vcr buttons are the same.
The next row is: bypass,settings,fav,tv/vcr
Next row is a,b,c, no label.
The last row are 4 buttons not labeled.
The sliding cover says comcast digital cable.
The other identical remote I have has no name/logo on the cover.

Couple of points...

1. IR 5.15 is **way** out of date, so you should update to 6.15
2. **Never** change the device mode of an upgrade in IR, always do it at the source (ie, in RM or KM).
3. When you download from the remote using IR, what name does IR give to the remote?
4. If you post a picture of the remote like I asked, I'll create an RDF specific to this remote for you, so you can make sensible upgrades in RM.

cable setup lock

Post by slugworth »

I went with ir615 and the latest remotemaster.
I promptly got "list index out of bounds (-1)"
and AdvCode object not found" errors.
I went back to ir515. On the general tab I had to set
the device code on the general tab screen first, then
the burps subsided. I noticed using ir615 extra settings
on the general tab for cable setup lock and cable channel lock,
I turned those off. I remapped the audio button for cable, now I
have the coolsat working with the cable button and microyal with
the audio button. I will post the ir file in the diagnosis area, since
I did leave a few buttons from the microyal off.

OK then, in lieu of a pic, please list all the buttons on the remote. If you look in your RM folder, in the Images folder, you'll find a somewhat blurry pic of a Navigator. The standard buttons are as follows...

VCR - CABLE - POWER
AUDIO - TV - {setup}

1-9

Mute - 0 - Enter

VOL +/-

LAST - EXIT - INFO

CH + / -

PAGE down / up

arrows / select

GUIDE - MENU

F1 - F2 - F3

Transport (Rew, Play, FF, Stop, Pause, Record)

OEM 1 thru 12

If any of the standard buttons are different on yours, please list them. The F1-3 and the OEM buttons are different on most Navigators, so you'll have to list what yours are.

buttons

Post by slugworth »

The standard buttons are the same.OEM different.
F1 has a yellow decal around it with an "A" inside a triangle above.
F2 has a blue decal with a "B" inside a square..
F3 has a red decal with a "C" inside a circle.
VCR buttons are standard.
Next comes bypass,settings,fav,tv/vcr
Then A,B,C, the rest have no labels.
Comcast digital cable logo on the slider.
I just noticed the battery cover says URC-44CXXXB02 on one remote,
and URC-44AXXXB02 on the other one.The other slider has no comcast logo.
I had both battery covers both off so much, I don't know which is which.

Did you also load the latest RDF files? The reason I ask is that some of the older RDF versions for this remote might generate this error message.

Bad idea.
slugworth wrote:I noticed using ir615 extra settings on the general tab for cable setup lock and cable channel lock, I turned those off.
These settings are provided by the RDF file, and should appear in either version of IR.

I have a Comcast version of this remote, and it has URC-44CXXXB02 on the battery cover. It works just fine with IR 6.15. The F1,F2,F3 buttons are labelled FAV, PPV and ALL ON. Under the sliding cover are:
(normal VCR keys)
HELP/*, FAV, LOCK, TV/VCR
BYPASS, PAUSE, DAY-, DAY+
(Diamond symbol), P, (blank), (blank)

As you can see, there are many variations in the way these buttons are labelled.

Here's a new RDF for you. It won't work with IR 5.15, so you'll need to go back to 6.15 to use it.

You should also be able to use it with RM to create upgrades now.
