I've only been playing with this unit for a couple weeks now and the back lighting seems to have failed. No matter what I do I see no lights. When I first got it it lit up like Starship Enterprise at any touch of a key. Now, nothing. I contacted One-for All support and they told me about the button that activates/deactivates lighting, but it does nothing for me. They also suggested removing the batteries and holding the light button for 30 seconds, then reinstalling batteries, but that helped not at all. Then, I looked at the users manual and learned it had only 90 days warranty, starting a the purchase date. Unfortunately, it sat on my shelf since February, so I guess I'm out of luck on that score.
Is this kind of failure common with the OFA?

While some models are prone to backlight failures, the URC-8811 certainly isn't one of them. This model uses about a dozen or more little LEDs to make up the backlight, so it's extremely unlikely that they all just suddenly failed.
Maybe the LIGHT button is no longer making contact, so you are not able to turn the light feature on. _________________ Rob

I agree it's more likely that one thing fail than, what, 3 dozen things, but
I used PDA stylus to poke it as hard as I dare. No effect.

It doesn't matter how hard you poke a button if it no longer has conductivity. _________________ Rob

Yes, I know, but when a a button doesn't work one has an inclination
to press harder and hope! It's like those buttons at the crosswalks....
Guess I don't really need the backlighting on the OFA if I go back to my original plan, i.e., just use it to help me program the MX-500.
