2117 is reduced now for same price as 2116. If you need/want the RF capability, it's a good choice. If not, the 19.63 walmart 8810W is probably the best current bargain.

the rs 15-2117 is $30 and has an LCD screen as well as a command center that lets you use the remote from any room in your house (apparently a fair number of people are having problems with getting this to work)

the wal-mart OFA 8810w is $20 and has more buttons than the 15-2117 but no LCD screen. most JP1ers say LCD screen isn't needed, so this is actually the best value (most features for the cost).

I have all of the above remotes and more but the one that I use is the OFA 8910. It has all the buttons on the 8810w as well as an LCD screen (I am in the minority, I like the screen). I really like having all these buttons to put functions on without having to use shifted keys that can use up keymove memory. The only thing I would change is that I would rather have a green or blue backlight. The red backlight is hard on my eyes.

All of the above remotes are JP1 compatible out of the box (they have 6 pin JP1 and they have eeprom)

Just for reference, here are some other threads that ask basically the same question...

Best JP1 remote?
Best current JP1 remote?
What remotes are JP1 able out of the box?
What's the perfect remote....for me?
