Yes it is 
But the problem is to use the receiver with another remote. This receiver has some kind of filter, and only seems to electrically accept Sigma Design's signals  (when it recognizes a signal, the receiver's internal led blinks). With the unknown remote, no blink at all ;(

As I told before, this weekend the solder iron will modify this receiver.
I discard by now buying more hardware, local or with you help. Thank you very much for the offers.
Ops! I forgot to mention my "learning remote": A Palm OS handheld.
I have been able to record codes with Philips ProntoLite Software (demo version), but I am afraid these codes can't be exported in the Pronto Format.
I have seen other learning remote software for Palm OS: "NoviiRemote" and "OmniRemote", but I will need some time to get the shareware versions.
Other alternatives: use an integrated infrared receiver in a laptop computer. I must hack my office's one, but it would be a valid way to record these rebel codes

Are you trying to make something that LIRC can use for raw IR capture, or are you writing your own raw IR capture software, or what software do you plan to use?

But can they be exported or stored in any format? There must be at least a data file on the Palm where the learned signals were stored and some way to get that file to a PC. We probably can then figure out what format the signals are stored in. |

Apologize, I think my head is a little dense today.
Are you trying to use use the RealMagic IR receiver as a generic receiver
which will understand any of your native remotes, or are you trying to
come up with a device code / protocol upgrade for URC-7541 which will
generate IR signals which the RealMagic IR Receiver will understand. |

I was trying to use the Realmagic IR receiver as a generic receiver which will understand the native remote not supported by the URC-7541.
Once I can capture the unknown signals I would like to decode the protocol and finaly upgrade the URC-7541.
Any advice with winlirc/lirc? Maybe some "raw" mode ? |

Some time ago when we were still at yahoo someone posted getting adequate results using an IR receiver from a vcr hooked to the IR port on his pc. i think he even wrote a program to decode generic Ir signals in ueic format. Since you already have some sort of IR collector, maybe you can utilize the software program with what you have? Check the yahoo JP-1 files and see if you can find out if it's still posted there.

So which native remote came with your Realmagic IR receiver? I'm
assuming it isn't the one that comes with the xCard and Hollywood+
packages. What does the native remote control? Is your satellite
receiver PC-based and it came with Realmagic IR receiver and its
own remote. Is there a name for the satellite package which uses
Realmagic IR receiver. I'm just wondering if someone already did
the work you are trying to do but it is listed under a different
name than realmagic.
I guess I'm mainly curious because up until now, I hadn't heard
of the Realmagic IR receiver being bundled with anything other
than the PC-based hardware mpg decoders from Sigma Designs.
I figure there is a good chance the "protocol" for your satellite
receiver remote control is the same as the the one for my xCard
DVD remote (NEC1) and the parts that are left to discover are
the main device # and EFCs for the functions.

I think my mind is mixing up the terminology you are using leading
to my confusion as to what you are describing.
I have the Realmagic IR receiver which was bundled with my xCard
PC-based hardware mpg decoder.
I have my Radio Shack 15-2117 remote programmed to use NEC1 protocol
with main device 128.
Realmagic IR receiver recognizes the signal (internal LED blinks)
I can control the Sigma Designs/Realmagic software DVD player using
my Radio Shack 15-2117.
In fact, unlike your experience, I find my Realmagic IR receiver
LED blinks for any IR signal it receives from any of my 9 native
remote controls for other components in the same room (which use
different protocols and are not from Sigma Designs)
Is it just that the Realmagic IR receiver you are using is built
differently than mine? |

If the main goal here is to have the ability to decode learned signals, it really would be alot easier to just buy a JP1 learning remote.
Now, I know they're expensive over there in Europe but I can send you a cheap US model if you need.

Yes, the main goal was to decode the learned signals. I finally bought a URC-7562. It is HUGUE  but it learns very well Following the JP1 for begginers I have managed to create a new upgrade code for the sat-receiver.
And thankyou everybody for your help and your offers of cheaper learning remotes. I appreciate all of them!
PD: sfhub: Shortly... Yes, the protocol was NEC1, the device code is 36, and the EFC codes where easily decoded with the learning remote. I don't know why the Realmagic IR receiver doesn't blink with my sat-receiver remote The solution was there since the beginning: Learning remote. Sorry for the mis-understands I could have caused.
