IR uses a driver that allows versions of Windows above 98 to directly access the parallel port. I have recently moved to XP at home and am thinking of doing the same on a laptop at work. The only issue is that I have an EPROM programmer (Pocket Programmer by Intronics) that is DOS based only. Works fine under a DOS window in 98, but it isn't going to work with XP. Is there a way to load this same driver with a command prompt in XP that would allow me to use this device with XP? Any suggestions? I gues I could do a dual boot thing or boot off a floppy when I wanted to burn an EPROM, but I do that several times during the day and it would be too inconvenient. I know this isn't a JP1 question, but I haven't seen a different driver that worked like that.

BTW, Thank you very much Rob for the Apex 1100 protocol that gets rid of the shift key. Made my life much nicer.

I never figured out how to integrate one of those drivers with an application, so when I need direct I/O access I use the allowio program that does the same job in a command prompt form. For my use that has been less convenient. But for your request I think it is a perfect fit.

Allowio is part of Craig Peacock's PortTalk package

Thank you very much. I'll see if this will work for me. Sounds promising at least.
