It's always a good idea to provide a direct link to any files that you want us to look at as it eliminates any confusion caused by the names, etc. In this case, for example, there isn't a file called "European Echostar 2200 receiver" but there is a file called Echostar-2200-SAT-1200, is that the one you mean? If so, I just downloaded it and it opened up in KM just fine, but it was created using a very old version of KM, so I just re-saved it with a recent copy of KM and have re-loaded it, so give it another try.

Thanks. Downloaded the Echostar file and looked at a few other files that work fine and realise that the colon in question isn't an issue but I still can't get the Echostar file to open in KM. I download the latest KM version (8.33) and the latest RDF files etc. but still get the message "This file does not apear to be a valid keymap-master Device Upgrade". I'm assuming that I must be doing sometihing wrong when dowloading (using IE6) yet am mystified that other upgrades seem to download and get opened by KM without apparent problem.

I just tried it and it opens fine for me, as well. Some things to try to check:

Are you right-clicking the "Download" button and choosing "Save As"?
Have you confirmed that you are saving the file as a *.txt" file when you download?
Are you using the "Load" button in KM to load the file? (Do not use the "Open" drop-down command in Excel)

I think IE - as installed and setup on my machine - isn't helping me here as it insists on opening all files as HTML pages and then even though I save it as a .TXT file it isn't the same as saving the original download. I think that IE is the culprit in that not all .TXT files are created equal. Some are fine but others get spurious (and invisible) carriage returns added in. I'm sure I now recall reading about a way to stop IE automatically opening files - plain saving as a .TXT file (as per your suggestion number one) is obviously the correct way to do it until I read the IE help file more carefully.

Yes I'm trying to Load the the KM file, not opening in in Excel and I then get the error message about it not being a recognized KM file.

When you right-click over the download button, you should see a pop-up menu like this:



If you select "Save As" (ie, the highlighted option) you should be able to save the file as a regular text file.

Use that, and you will get a dialog box asking you WHERE to save the properly formatted *.txt KM file.

Sorry, I was being a bit too literal and had discounted "Save Target As" as being different to "Save As"; which it is, you've got to admit although I might have used my initiative and tried it anyway.

Excuse - recently I've been saving segments of map data where "Save Target As" resulted in the link rather than the image itself being copied and I've obviously instinctively avoided this item on the menu.

There ought to be an emoticon for "Doh!". (:homer: perhaps?) will have to suffice for now.

Looks like I'll have to find yet more NEC1, Dev0 devices as penance.

Well, I'm not going to provide you links to maps of all my residences over the past 40-odd years, as there would be 22 of them (Navy life does that to you), but I currently am in the UK, in suburban London (Chorleywood, Herts) - staying off the tube until people stop bombing the damned thing for no good reason.

KM upgrade.
Originally had downloaded something that looked very like a proper KM upgrade but IE had messed it up a bit. Downloaded others that worked fine so was convinced that it must be the file at fault. I didn't for one minute, of course, really believe that The Robman would knowingly upload a dodgy file but the lack of downloads meant to me that it might not have been tested in the field, as it were. Now know the folly of not downloading text files in the proper, safe manner.

KM upgrade update.
Once I did get it downloaded I could see that it was, of course, a masterpiece of remote mapping but it doesn't fit with my device (Echostar T-101FTA digital terrestrial TV receiver) as it uses the Echostar protocol and my device uses the StreamZap protocol, Device 34. Now I've managed to learn all the buttons from my device and they all work in learned mode and I've created an upgrade but it doesn't work when I load it back to the remote (unless I cheat and leave the learned buttons still learned). I notice that all the buttons are consistent as StreamZap and Device 34 and most learned first time with few non-recognised signals but that T=0 and T=1 appears consecutively in the Misc column in IR so I'll need to go and find out what this means and fix it. Yes, I copied and pasted the protocol into IR.

Back when I worked at the Sears Tower in Chicago, they were having a "fish 'n' chips" day in the cafe there, so I thought "hey cool, I'm British, this is for me" but the fish wasn't cod or place, it was scampi, and the chips were (you guessed it) potato chips!!! I tried explaining to the guy that the "chips" in fish'n'chips are "fries" to which he replied "so, you wanna side a fries with that?"

UQ, load up your IR file with the learned signals, just so we can verify that the Streamzap decodes are good, then also load up your KM file so we can verify that you've built it correctly. In fact, make sure that the IR file also has your upgrade in it (on a different device button than the learned signals) just so that (if the KM file is good) we can verify that you copied it over correctly. Just tryin' to cover all the bases (US baseball term! )

Had a look at it in RM and looks like it has a different protocol number (01 23 v 01 24 or something) and I also see mention of a StreamZap 57 (KHz?). Will try various things this weekend and post as new thread (Echostar T-101 FTA digital receiver - read the review and you'll see why it's important to JP1 as if you lose or damage the remote for this device you've had it. Also bear in mind that this unit is ludicrously cheap for the functionality it gives and wonder at why the reviewer is complaining about lack of MUX information - like he can change it or anything) with links to relevant files whether successful or not.

The original point of this post - ie the DVD Bush 2039 upgrade - seems to be working well. I had had trouble learning the open/close command to my Kameleon 8040 but managed to learn it to the 7562 and incorporate it into the upgrade; I have deliberately put this command on a shift-function to avoid accidental use and have mapped some of the less-used functions too (angle, 3D etc.). I didn't map the volume keys or mute button as I have VPT On and figure that most people tend to leave the DVD volume set (to highest in my case) and control listening volume from the TV or other audio device. The Mute button on the 7562 is a pain, by the way, since it is right where the "OK" or "Enter" button ought to be so I've left it as is and assigned the "Auto" (blue) button as "OK" since it is convenient for the joint of my right thumb.

Have learned the codes from all 29 original buttons. Dowloaded to IR, copied to KM 8.32 and also tried in 8.33, re-loaded to remote but no (zero) keys causing even a flicker of the device's LED. Noted that IR says Protocol Streamzap, Device 34. KM generates a profile 01 23. Found link that says Sreamzap "broken" for KM. Having just about got grips with KM, embarked upon learning to use RM (nice program, guys!) and it gives protocol = 01 24. Am now going to try codes from RM and see how I get on. Once done I'll load the failed upgrades onto CD and AUX and if I get a working one I'll stick it on SAT and post the files. If not then I'll learn the codes onto the buttons on SAT although I might get only 26 or to stick.

Please bear with me as small child sleeping on dominant arm is making typing difficult. Would give small child to wife but she is making dinner and this wins out over further remote play for the time being.

Your IR file only contains the upgrade you built, not the signals you learnt, so it's hard to determine whether there is a decode problem and/or whether you interpreted the decode correctly.
