Hi There,
I have a OFA Home Producer 8, URC9800B01. I spent months and two
trips back to the factory to get it fully working with my Home Theater
system. The biggest problem that I had was I totally ran out of memory and had to make some compromises. Unfortunately, my key buttons are now wearing out.
What I was wondering is if there is anything new in production that I could
replace the Producer 8 with. I like to use buttons, need more memory and
would love to transfer all of my my programming to the new unit. I do
not need the RF/IR command center as that never worked very well anyway.
Thanks for your help and insight.

I assume by the "trips back to the factory" comment that you're not a JP1 user (if I'm wrong, let me know). If you were to become a JP1 user, you could undoubtedly re-configure all of the upgrades in such a way that you would not run out of memory. The URC-9800 has more upgrade memory than most JP1 remotes because none of it's 2k memory chip is used for learning (it has a seperate chip for the learned signals).
If you do buy a new remote, unless you get another URC-9800 (or URC-8800) you won't be able to transfer your programming, you would need to re-create it for the new remote.

Hi Rob,
What I ment by "back to the factory" was to get some device codes added,
from their library. As a result of my work, I was able to help them add some critical keys to some of thir device codes.
I have purchased a JP1 cable but have not learned how to use it yet. It
seems like everything that I read on this is a bit overwhelming. When
you say "re-configure so as to not run out of memory" I would have
no idea how to do this. However, the keys wearing out means that
I need to get going and learn the sucker.
Now a question for you. Is there any difference at all between the
URC-8800 and the URC-9800, other than the RF/IR Command Center?
Next, where might I find the best price on these? Actually, I have tried
google and froogle and have not been able to find them for sale, at
all.
Thanks much for your help. I really appreciate it.
