there is some significant benefits in going with the extender. For one everything in this thread would be irrelevant since you can do anything you want with any device. For that matter even more granular like controlling which volume, transport, channel etc. buttons are used on any device. Not to mention speed and nested macros. You can even control which screen comes up first in each device with multiple screens.

The extender is easy to install with IR version 6 so it is not difficult at all to get started. You just save your current configuration and use it as input with the extender files and it preserves most everything and creates the default device macros for you.

Wow. Didn't even know there was a version 6 of IR out. I will check that out now. So you say it pretty much automates the install of the extender? I tried installing it twice, both times to no avail. I will try again with v6. Thanks!

I tried to get the extender installed. For some reason, I am having problems. I get to the step where you create your new file using "install-2.bat". It gives me the error:

Upgrade pointer at address $0000 points to $FFFF, which is out of range.

I don't know what to do now. Could someone help? Here is the txt file I am trying to convert:

http://www.spinningkitty.com/MiscStuff/ ... ration.txt

Thanks for any help you can give! I am sooooo ready to get this motion sensor turned off!

Try using the "merge using extinstall" in the file menu of IR 6. Much cleaner and easier than using the bat files. Make sure the RDF for the original and the extender are in the same path. And that extinstall is found by IR.

Well, I got it installed finally. Some of my macros must have been messing with it, so I deleted all of them that I had. No big deal. I'm sure that I will set them back up sometime in the near future.

As far as the extender goes, it is doing just what I want it to do. Keep the backlight off! It is no problem to press a button to make it turn on, but I am having to press a button twice to make it turn on. The second key press is active too, so that is a pain. Also, I have found that I have to press a key that is active for the device that it was last on. None of the device keys will turn the remote on. I find that a bit annoying. It sure would be easier if I could just press the HT button to make it turn on.

Oh well. Let me know if I am doing anything wrong that is making the buttons not work as I have described. At least I will start saving some money on batteries!

Thanks for all your help.

Flipper, which version of the extender are you using? 2 or 2a?

If you are using 2 try 2a and visa-versa. They both handle the backlight a little different and may solve your problem to switch.

Take a look at the instructions in this Announcement and you can just reverse the numbers if you are going from 2a to 2. This will save you from having to reinstall. Just save your current just in case it gets messed up.

Nils, you rock! My remote works perfectly now! I changed the two values as described on the announcement page that you linked above. Uploaded it to the remote, and voila! Thanks a million!

I downloaded the 2a version, but there isn't an ASM, or a HEX file in the package. Not that it makes any difference knowing the values to change, but I was just curious.

Thanks again!

I am glad it worked for you. I suspected that it might.

I just checked and the asm and hex file are in there in both the 2 and 2a zip files. Are you getting them from the file section linked at the top of the forum?

I didn't look in the "Backups" folder. :)

Again, thanks so much for the assistance. I really appreciate it!

In that case it was poor packaging on my part since it should not have had folders. I will fix that
