I have an old URC-2005 that I think I screwed up by attempting to transfer the ENTER key to the SCAN key. Now when I put in the batteries it flashes 3 times. On the third flash the red light stays lit and the remote begans the scan channel function. After a few seconds the remote goes completely dead.
Do you know of anything I might try to reset it?
I am trying to make this work for my 90 year old father who needs a simple remote with big buttons (like the now discontinued Radi Shack 150-1989!!)

Re: MFR RESET - Instructions
First option at top post is what the manual say. It say after you press 9-8-1 you will get 2 flash instead of 4.1) For most non-LCD remotes:

The reason that one might let a remote "sit for a while" is to let the capacitors drain out, but a much quicker way to accomplish this is to short out the two battery terminals.
I don't believe the URC-2005 has a battery cell onboard, the only remote that I know of that has a cell is the URC-6805 "VCR Pro" LCD remote.

Rob,
Thanks for your help. I took the remote apart to discharge the capacitor (which wouldn't discharge by the battery terminal method). I did verify a before and after voltage as I discharged it.
Then I think I saw that I was incorrect in my diagnosis. I had painted my keys with the rear window defogger repair paint the same day that my troubles began. Some of the paint transferred to the circuit board where it was shorting out a key or two.
I think you can ditch my erroneous posts and get them off this sticky post.
Thanks again.
