a little confused about ex2 for the 15-2116

Post by reapur »

hi guys,
I've just scanned thru the readme and the tutorial for ex2 but I'm still unclear about a couple of things.

1- I have programmed my remote with IR already and I have everything setup with macros and KM device codes.
if I use ex2, will it merge with my setup or does it overwrite and I'd have to start over?

2- I read somewhere on remotecentral some time ago that there maybe the ability to program macros on the device keys such that I can either HOLD down the device key for a certain number of seconds to execute a macro and also be able to "double click" a device button to execute another macro. Is this now possible? is it a function of an extender like ex2? what is this methos of macro programming called so that I may search on it and glean more info.

3- is putting a macro on "my system" a function of an extender or do I need to look elsewhere? nevermind this, I already had it working but forgot :)

thanks and best regards[/list]

It's pretty much as explained in the included documents. You can carry most of the things, but the way you switch the current device is very different, most non-extender version special protocols don't work, etc.
One thing to mention is that the Extinstall program doesn't support the notes in the .IR file. You have to save it in .txt without the notes before installing the extender.

These features are included in the extender. Read LongDoubleKeyPress.txt and search for LKP or LDKP in the forum.

I'm fairly sure you can do it with the extender. It may not need the extender, but I don't have this remote myself, and I forgot that, too.

Yes, LKP and DKP are both possible with extender. I found LKP more
natural to use.

Press and hold DVD to turn on all devices related to DVD and set
the input on TV and Receiver. Press DVD to select DVD device but
do no other action. Press and hold Power to turn off all devices.
Press Power to perform power toggle for active device.

This methodology works for both advanced remote user and for
guests who have never used your remote. In the latter case, remote
performs like any other universal remote where you select the device
then turn on power, then select next device, etc. etc.

Training people to use the remote takes literaly 5 minutes.
