urc-9910 bad e2 even after mfr reset

Post by fkamp »

hello,

Having trouble uploading and downloading to my urc-9910B01. Here's my setup:

1. parallel port cable
2. using Ir.exe v6.00
3. using latest rdf files
4. urc-9910 was/is correctly identified during a download
5. my replay 5000 remote works fine, I can upload and download changes just fine to it
6. plugging cable in correctly

I downloaded the original eeprom data and saved it. I then changed the cbl button to sat and code 0749. Tried to upload to remote, got no errors from ir.exe but the button assignment did not change. I reversed the changes and changed sat button code to 0749. Tried to upload again but it did not change. I then changed the code on the remote itself and it worked. So I tried to download again from the remote. This time I happened to look at the lcd and after the screen flashes all segments on and goes off the message "MEM FAULT" is displayed briefly. So I watched it during an upload and the same message appeared.

I tried doing the MFR RESET but after "RESET RAM" it displays "BAD E2" then "EXIT SETUP"

I tried searching for this and found one post which directed the user to do a mfr reset.

Here's how I'm doing the mfr reset: ( maybe i'm goofing it up?)

Pressed "SET" until code set is displayed
Pressed "REC" until mfr reset is displayed
Pressed "SELECT"
"CONFIRM" is displayed
Pressed "SELECT" again
"RESET RAM" is displayed
"BAD E2" is displayed followed by "EXIT SETUP"

Thanks for taking time to read my post

It sounds like you have a bad E2 (eeprom) chip because if the MFR RESET doesn't clear it, it's not just bad data.

If you know how, I would first suggest that you try re-soldering the 8-pins of the E2 chip and if that doesn't work, try replacing it.

Thanks for your reply.

If I had not just bought it yesterday, I would definitely try that.
I am going to get a refund if possible and hope that my HT-PRO from X10 gets here.

Again thanks for your help.
