Durabrand HT-3915

Post by rsr1964 »

I purchased a URC-8810W remote and found that it would not control my cheap Walmart Durabrand HT-3915 home theater. I shipped it to the One-For-All update center where they added 2 new codes #1561, and #1566.
Neither one works. Does anyone have the codes?, and will I need to have it updated again!

Do you have the original remote that came with the Durabrand? If so, have you tried learning the buttons from it. I know that you don't have enough memory in the URC-8810w to hold that many buttons, but if the learning process works, your best bet is to just get a JP1 cable and create your own upgrade. It'll certainly be alot quicker and easier that continually sending the remote back to OFA.

I had tried the learning process before I sent it off because it didn`t seem to work. I thought maybe there were no codes installed. While surfing for an answer I found the solution on another site. Anyone who owns a OFA URC-8810W, or 8811 will find the manual is not specific enough. The correct procedure I`ve copied here:

"If learning is not working.... I suspect you are not doing it properly, most likely because the printed manual is hopeless.

Here's the correct learning method...

1) Position the 2 remotes head-to-head
2) Press and hold the SET button, 2 flashes
3) Type 975, 2 flashes
4) Press the relevant device mode button (eg, TV, VCR, etc)
5) Press the URC-8810w button that you're programming. At this point the red LED will start flashing rapidly...
6) While it's still flashing, start pressing the button on your original remote. At this point the URC-8810w red LED will stop flashing, but KEEP PRESSING the original remote button until the URC-8810w's red LED gives 2 short flashes.
7) If you have more buttons to program, repeat steps 4 thru 6.
8) When you're finished, press and hold SET and wait for 2 more flashes."

This was exactly the problem. The key is to have the two remotes head to head at the beginning (step 1) and most importantly, to press the button on the original remote WHILE the LED is still flashing (step 6). The manual is very misleading in this regard. I'd be surprised if they don't get a ton of these returned.

I think I recignize those instructions because I think I wrote them! :)

So, what I think you're saying is that you were indeed able to learn the signals from the Durabrand remote. That being the case, if you were to invest a further $14 into this remote and get yourself a JP1 cable, you would be able to create a new upgrade code yourself to load into it.

The process is really quite easy, check this out...

i'm having the same exact problem with the same speakers and remote!! i was considering sending the remote to OFA, as it would be cheaper than buying or making the cables...
the new instructions on programing the keys worked like a charm, thanks robman! it would still be kind of nice to have a code for the device, so i could use the same volume buttons for everything....maybe the jp1 cable isn't such a bad idea afterall....

*man i feel dumb...i just read that you can pretty much program any button with the learn mode....awesome, now my volume buttons actually control the volume! thanks again, this site rocks!!!!!
