Hello,

I just noticed this forum yesturday as I was trying to figure out how to combine a ton of remotes. That said, I also noticed that painting a JP1 remote would be a nice custom feature.

Of course, the most troublesome part is losing the labels on the upside of the remote case. So I was wondering, what if we could use the same method for Toner Transfering PCB's? For those who don't know, laser toner is simply plastic flakes that are sprinkled on paper and then heated on.

What if we could scan the upside of the remote to get the form of it, and then using Photoshop, use that image as one layer and write text on top of it. That way, the labels will be in the correct position corresponding to the button layout on your own remote. Then, you just take that text layer and change the color to your linking and print it out via color laser printer. Next, you would then iron on the labels to your newly painted remote case. Finally, a coat of clear spray paint in order to protect the labels from scratching off.

I am thinking this is possible, but I don't have a remote yet... I am planning on getting one this week.

Thanks again,
Genaro M.

It sounds like you know what you're talking about, so give it a try. Maybe you should pick up a few junky remotes (ie, the sort that sell for $5 each) to practice on before you mess up a good JP1 remote.

If you are able to do this successfully and you write something up about it, I'm sure there'll be a few people here who start experimenting.

There are a few guys that stipple and paint polymer components for handguns and such for the competition circuit. They do some pretty funky splatter/fade paint jobs. APS Grips

What about clear decals from the world of scale models? The very thin decal sets very well with setting solution and can then be topped with clear coat. It would work better if the remote was a lighter color. Do this all the time for my scale models.
