Updated RDF's

If you have a new remote that isn't recognized by RMIR, post the details here so we can help create a new RDF for it. Or, if there is an issue with an existing RDF or map, this is the place.

also, any recommendations for what is the best file naming system (to make them all uniform) for the km.txt, rm.txt, ir.txt files, especially ones that users modify and upload back to jp1 files area?

I find I have named some files when i first got started and without opening them i cant tell which are IR and which are KM (I suppose I should put them in separate directories?)

Oh, and my thanks to all the experts for making my life a bit easier and more interesting.
I can tell you how mine is setup and you can go from there.
  • 1) jp1 = the primary directory - In here I keep RM, IR, and KM, IR RDF's, KM files and IR files, plus other stuff like the assembler and extinstall.
    2) jp1/Images = the RM maps & images
    3) jp1/Upgrades = the RM upgrades
    4) jp1/RM-RDF = the RM version of the RDF's
IR require the files and RDF's to be in the same directory but RM lets you specify where the RDF's maps/images and upgrades are. You can change them either when you install RM or via a notepad edit of RemoteMaster.properties. This setup by the way is just about exactly how the RM install will set it up is you allow zip to use the directory names.
  • IR files end with .txt
    KM files end with .txt
    RM files end with .rmdu
The naming standard I use is "URC6131 Samsung 3096 TV 1060.rmdu".
I think the parts are obvious but "URC6131" is the remote, "Samsung 3096 TV" is the equipment name and type, "1060" is the device code in the setup. Within both RM and KM you can even add further descriptions of what the upgrade does.

I hope this helps.

Nils,

Thank you. One question though, how do you distinguish your IR from your KM files if they are in the same directory and both end in .txt ?

I just name the IR upgrade for the remote and not the devices it controls and a version like current and test like URC6131 Current.txt. The KM files have the same detail in their name as I have for the RM upgrades.

One way to keep KM and IR .txt files straight, since RM upgrades always end with ".rmdu" is with KM files name them for the remote and what the device is, like, "Mill4_Sanyo_VWM-800_VCR.txt". I usually name IR files by dates, ie, "IR_11-2-03.txt" If I happen to make more than one on a certain day, I'll use an extra postscript, like: "IR_11-4-03a.txt. For RM's, I like to note the remote as well so it would be named: "2104_Sanyo_VWM-800_VCR.rmdu".
