UHOH..., Newbie thinks he messed up big time

Post by stingray »

Hi all,
Been following these forums for a few weeks trying to gather all the info necessary. Unfortunately, something went wrong big time. Got my Ultra cable from jp1 filebug.com and attempted to try and connect with my remote (URC9910B01) using the necessary files. However, each time I tried to interface with the remote from the PC I kept getting an error message saying there was no response. Tried with/without batteries. No luck. Well afterwards, I disconnected my remote from the JP1 cable and just decided to use the remote and try again at a later time. Now, the remote doesnt work and I get a message saying memory fault on the LCD display when plugging in the batteries. Tried and reset the remote using ops-reset but LCD says bad E2. Is the remote fried or can it be saved? Also, for future refernce, any idea what could have happened? Followed the directions in the how-to documents to a T, or at least I think I did.
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Very common problem and easily fixed. Don't do an OPS RESET, do a full MFR RESET.

1) Press and hold SET, screen changes
2) Press RECORD
3) Follow prompts

All will be well! :)

Dude, you're the best. Just tried it and all is back to normal. Actually found out about your little trick while searching thru some old posts. Thanks a ton. Now, if someone could offer some insight as to why things went hay wire that would be great. Also, still cant interface with remote using IR. Keep getting same message about cable not being plugged in.

Tom (filebug) wrote to me about this also. Unfortunately, I know very little about the Ultra interface nor what the cause of your connection problems might be. What promted you to get an Ultra rather than a Simple interface in the first place? I ask because the Ultra was developed primarily for people who are experiencing problems getting the Simple to work.

Also, I notice that you have the B01 version of the URC-9910. We haven't come across a B01 version before, so if you get your cable working, please let us know if IR.exe recognizes the remote as a URC-9910. If it doesn't, we'll need to make a new RDF for it.

I also have a 9910B01 and it has been working very normally. And it is recognized as 9910. I dont know what JP1 interface cable I have - it came with the 9910 as a pkg from Blue-Do since about last March (?)

For the other poster with the problem. I am using an older version of IR (5.10) and things are working fine with the extender and without. Dont know how I could help more...

best of luck

That last post prompted me to take a look at the arrow key versions of the 9910 that I have available, and sure enough, they are B01 versions. So, I think in this case the B01 version simply means that the remote has arrow keys rather than a donut ring.

I just checked one of my B01s and it downloads with IR.exe no problem.

Are you sure the parallel ports are enabled and functioning properly?
Can you try a different remote?

First off, want to thank everyone for the input. Got things up and running last night. Turned out that in the bios for the mobo the LPT port was set to disabled. Once I set it up correctly things went smooth. It was late so didn't really get a chance to play much, just downloaded the existing files off the remote. I'll get more involved with it this weekend ( so stay tuned, there will probably be more questions on the way). Again, thanks for the help and Happy Turkey Day to all.
