Hi all,
I've been researching X10 to control my gas fireplace. I am pretty sure all I need are these two items. Can someone please verify for me?
IR543
RS114 Appliance Switch 20 Amp
Currently I have a 8010w JP1 remote and the fireplace is gas and on a regular on/off type light switch.
Thanks for the help |

That looks like the right switch for you, as long as your fireplace doesn't draw more than 20 amps.
With any JP1 remote, you can either use the built in HOME/0167 code to control the IR543, or you can use one of the X10 upgrades posted in the file section. I recommend getting the IR543 from homeautomationnet.com as they have it for just $20. They also have the switch for $38.50. _________________ Rob

Late coming to this post, but was curious if you'd proceeded with this.
I did something similar a few years ago and found some interesting stuff that might be important:
In my case, the "wall switch" does not actually control the power to anything. The ignition/valve module is plugged into a "always on" power source, and a low-voltage DC wire is run up to the wallswitch.
Flipping the switch merely closes a set of contacts, which activates a relay, which lights the fire, etc.
For this reason, a normal X10 wall switch won't work, (there's no AC power at the wall).
Here's what I did:
I added a "Universal Module" like the PUM101 underneath the fireplace, set to latched mode (as oppsed to Momentary). In my case I wired the wall switch in series with the module, so that they both must be "On" for the fireplace to light (I like having a switch I can turn off in an emergency), but you could also wire it in parallel (so either one can light the fireplace) or just remove the switch (so only the module can light the fireplace).
At one point I also had a TOADTOG macro set up that would light or extinquish the fireplace with successive pushes of a remote button, so that my wife didn't have to deal with the usual "Change to X10 Device, Enter Fireplace Number, Then Power On", etc. sequence.
I don't check this forum as often as I'd like, so if you have any questions, just email me. _________________ TiVo FREAK!
