I have a macro set up on my pause button that switches over to the AUX device and enters a command to brighten my lights. Likewise, I have another macro assigned to my play button that switches over to the AUX device and enters a command to dim my lights. This is great and really is a nice touch to my home theater. The problem is that I don't want this functionallity during the day time when lights aren't necessary.
I tried to define a new function into the DVD device in KM. I entered the EFC number for the X10 command I am using for the lights. I assigned this to a phantom key in the DVD device. I then loaded up the DVD device without the phantom keys defined and assigned it to the CD button. My thought was that now during the day I can use the CD device without the phantom key defined (hence nothing would happen when the macro executes), and I could use the DVD device at night when I want the lights to be controlled. This did not work.
Maybe I just don't know how to add a function to a different device. Can someone help me out here?
Here is a breakdown of what I want to happen:
Device DVD:
Play - Play - X10 Unit 4 ON
Pause - Pause - X10 Unit 5 ON
Device CD (controlling the DVD player):
Play - Play
Pause - Pause
Does this make sense?
Day and night

Method 1:
Program the two macros as DSMs (Device Specific Macros) in DVD mode.
Method 2:
Program the X10 commands to phantoms in DVD mode only (leave these phantoms blank in all other modes) then program the macros to use the phantoms (and don't include any device buttons in the macro)

Thanks for the reply.
1. I don't know how to program a DSM. Can this be done without using an extender? If so, you could outline how or point me in the right direction?
2. This is the method that I was trying to use. The problem I ran across is that it appeared that the DVD device did not "take" the X10 commands when I put them into KM. In its own device, the X10 command is this:
Unit 4 ON: EFC=239, OFC=037, Hex=A4
When I put it into the DVD device, I entered the EFC #. Once I did that it filled in the OFC and Hex feilds automatically. The Hex # matched what is listed above, but the OFC # was different. I tried it anyway, but it didn't work.
I guess I need to know how to properly input a new function into the DVD device using KM. On a side note... the DVD device, when configured with KM, does not have any code for the special protocol. However, the X10 device does. Do I need to copy that special protocol info over from the X10 to the DVD as well?
Thanks again.
By the way, I am using a URC 9960 Kameleon if that makes a difference.
Another note: if using the phantoms in DVD mode to activate the lights, I could still have phantoms defined in other modes so long as they are not defined in CD (the daytime DVD) mode... correct?

Look for DSMs in the Special Protocol folder.
Don't program the X10 keymoves using KM, program them using IR.
