I'm not sure if this is in the right forum, but if it's not now then it will be by the time I've finished!!

I've been using a URC8060 using Extender 1 for quite a while now, it works very well for what I want. One of the devices it controls is Windows XP Media Centre for which I had to download a protocol from the OFA web site as there is no in built support for it, no problems it works fine.

I also the 8060s little brother, the 8040. Like the 8060 this does not have the required protocol built in, however unlike the 8060 it also does not have the capability for user downloads. I've been told by OFA that if I send it off then they can upgrade it. However as I want to use the 8040 extender anyway I'll have to solder wires to the JP1 pads as it's almost impossible to get the remote working with the battery door off.

So given the above is it possible to copy the downloaded protocol on the 8060 to the 8040? If it is then what’s the best way of doing it and if not would it be possible for the protocol to be 'ported' by someone who knows what they are doing?

I've not actually tried to use the 8040 extender yet (as I've not done the required soldering) but I will do soon even if the above is not possible, is anyone else using this? I'm assuming it's very similar to the extender for the 8060.

Thanks in advance,

Richard

I suggest you use the Windows Media Center upgrade that is already posted in the folder at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jp1/files/3.%20Device%20Codes/Misc/

Since it is a KM file you can change the model of remote and change the button layout to customize it for your remote.

Thanks for that, the protocol was different, although both seem to work fine in the 8060. The one on the Yahoo Groups site works in both, after quite a few changes to the button assignments, so I'll stick with that one.

May be this thread should be moved to the General Forum as I've not found any problems with the 8040 extender (good job Nils!), yet .... If I do I'll start a new thread.

Richard
