Bad News: Next-gen DirecTV remote = no JP1

Post by RonL »

I just received the new new UEIC remote that is to be the standard remote on all future DirecTV STBs and DVRs. It is a white remote with two circular rings of buttons; the top is for DVRs, and the bottom is for menu navigation. There are also four colored buttons for interactive functions.

There is no visible JP1 connector in the battery compartment or anywhere else. By default, it does not appear to support existing DirecTivo DVRs; I have do not have device codes to try the AV1 and AV2 auxiliary device modes, as these are not listed in the DirecTV D10 STB manual.

This is unfortunate, as I think its button layout is superior to the URC-6131.

Ron, can you list the steps to program the remote to control a Tv, here? A pdf won't do me any good, I can't open it with webtv.

Masked,

I need that information too. The instructions and codes for programming the remote (for TV and AUX1, AUX2) are apparently provided only by the on-screen help of new DirecTV STBs.

The instructions for programming the remote are not in the PDF.

I'll see if I can find out any additional information.

Just FYI, if this remote doesn't use standard UEI setup codes, it most likely means that the codes have been offset. For example, if the normal code for a Toshiba TV is TV/0156, and they decided to offset the codes by 14, the new code for Toshiba would be TV/0170. So, once you've found one good code, you can figure out the offset value.

Actually Rob, this new UEI remote uses 5 digit setup codes. They have prefixes for each type of device:

Sat's & Dvr's 0****
Tv's 1****
Dvd's & Vcr's 2****
Audio rec's 3****

So the code for a toshiba Tv is 10156, Tivo 01142 and so on.

It still uses some 99* #'s, but it doesn't accept 994.:(

The above will work on the directv remote being sold at Directv.com, but not with the one furnished with D10 receivers. The D10 remote can be programmed for tivo, partially. Certain commands are locked to the D10 codes. They include GUIDE, LIST, EXIT and the color keys. The tivo in the D10 remotes is 20618.

DTV white remote woes

Post by TheChiefGeek »

I have heard but not confirmed that the remote can be upgraded over the phone.

As far as opening it, I got the cover 1/2 way off and was able to see the 24cxx chip U2 at the bottom of the circuit board.

I thought I saw a post on how to add a JP1 interface to this remote, of course its all for nothing if we cant get the remote apart without breaking it.

Got the remote open

Post by TheChiefGeek »

I don't know why I didnt notice it before, there is a plastic insert on the top of the remote that comes out. There are three screws under it.

There is a place to solder a 4 pin header labeled J2 on the board. Any one know if this is used for the JP1 interface ?
