I have a 8811 and I want to be able to use the device keys to set up all of the equipment used for that device (e.g., pressing dvd would switch the video input on the tv, change the receiver to dvd and such) . I have the macros working and I access them using the shift and the device key.
The problem is it is clumsy. The shift key is located far away from the other keys and requires tiny fingers to press it (it is recessed unlike all of the other keys). Can I make another key the "shift" key? For example I don't use the CD button, could I make that the shift key?
Am I missing an elephant in the living room on this? Is there a better way? The extender for my remote doesn't offer LKP/DKP.
Paul
P.S. A brief overview on how to actually program LKP once it is installed would be appreciated too, I have other remotes (8910, 2116) that I could employ that method, /*if I understood it*/.
Move the shift key?

The extender lets you use the device key unshifted for whichever macro you find more convenient. I can't tell whether you put the macro on the shifted key because you aren't using the extender, or because it is the second most important function for the device key.
The extender also lets you redefine the shift key.
I don't know much about LKP/DKP and nothing about their status on the 8811. The extender provides some support to macro-like special protocols, which ought to make it easier to code an LKP or DKP protocol for use with the 8811 extender than to code a stand alone one. But I don't recall whether either has been done.

If you are not using the extender and want to make another button the SHIFT button, program a macro to it that only includes the SET button. However, you won't be able to program the macro to a device button such as the CD button.
Good candidates on the 8811 would be MENU, GUIDE, INFO and EXIT if you can spare any of those. Otherwise you have 4 macro and 4 learning buttons you could chose from.

If I *always* want certain functions to happen when I press the SAT button (like discrete power on, tv to channel 90) is there a way to make the SAT button itself do that?
Will I need an extender?
Does the 8811 allow for those SET number number number codes like my 8910? It would really help when doing the discrete power on.

What you are asking is "Can I program a macro to the SAT device button?" and the answer is yes, but only if you install the extender. Without the extender, the closest you can come is to program the macro to shift/SAT as you have already done.paully_21 wrote:If I *always* want certain functions to happen when I press the SAT button (like discrete power on, tv to channel 90) is there a way to make the SAT button itself do that? Did you try it before asking? It would take less tiem to try it, then to post a question and wait for one of us to answer, and we do encourage the DIY spirit here. But regardless, the answer is yes, the SETUP+nnn method works on every remote that has a SETUP button.paully_21 wrote:Does the 8811 allow for those SET number number number codes like my 8910?
