Having trouble getting started with 8810w, Errors with IR 5

Post by Llort »

Remote 8810w

The following are the results I'm getting, I'd appreciate a push in the right direction to the correct documentation to correct.

JP1 cable conn to parallel port, (Homemade, Simple Interface Rev. 4)

Download from IR 5.15 (One battery backwards to allow communication, otherwise gives bad interface Error)

Get Error:
Bad checksum at address $0000. Expected $D7 $28, but Found $60 $9F

Click OK

Get Error:
There is a conflict at fixed data address $0023. Do you want to replace the existing data with the fixed data?

Select YES

Appears all info in there, (to much of a noob to really know)

Try to Upload to remote (No changes to data, using info from download)

Error:
Did not receive a response (acknowledgement) from the remote after sending bus address. (ErrNo=6, Param=0)

Also tried ReplayTV remote URC 4641B00
Win XP sp2

Have you tried downloading from the remote? If not try it and see if any what errors you get.

The reason I am suggesting this is you may be using the wrong RDF for the remote in IR

He mentions all the errors in the first post. I would recommend doing a 981 reset on the remote and starting over. Be aware though that the 981 reset will erase all of your current programming, including keymoves, macros, upgrades, etc, but it will almost certainly solve the problem.

Update, after following instructions

Post by Llort »

Reset 8810w as Rob instructed

Downloaded without Error to IR 5.15

No Changes to programming instructed to Upload

Error:
Did not receive a response (acknowledgement) from the remote after sending bus address. (ErrNo=6, Param=0)

Got Identical results with ReplayTV URC-4641B00(w/battery removed or wouldn't work)

Are these possible causes:

JP1 Cable is about 6' long?

I followed instructions for Simple Interface Rev. 4 which specifies 10K resististors, should these be changed to 1K?

I didn't bond pins 16-25 for grounding purposes, should I?

______________

981 reset 8810w

Thanks Rob, now I just have to figure out how to use the tools now that I can talk to them. I don't understand why I keep having to reset Remote to get clean download.

I suspect that your faulty cable was corrupting the data in the EEPROM, hence the checksum errors. Once you get a checksum error, the best remedy is a 981 reset. Now that you've fixed the cable you shouldn't have to keep doing that.
