6131 being particular

Post by SemperFi »

Maybe I am just a moron but I think I am doing it right.

The stock 618 code for my pvr wasn't setup to my liking so I used the one from the files section and moved some stuff around. Anyhow I removed the standby from the power button so I could use it for my tv. I copied to ir then put in a keymove for my power button to use the tv power toggle. Well when I press the power button on the pvr setting not only doesn't it work but the led on the remote doesn't lite. I have several remotes all rat shack except this one. So I have done it before although it has been a while. I even tried to use a macro instead with the same results.

the 6131 doesn't use an extender. Is it something particular about this remote?

Edit: Ok I just did a search as I should have done first. I see the 6131 is different. I will just dig out my manual and do it the old fashond way.

Edit2: Got it going now. Another question if I may. Are making macros goofy with the 6131 also? I like to take a couple of the unused buttons and program in the channel number and the enter key. While I haven't tried that yet I did try the power using a macro just out of curiosity. Either way I am good to go now. The power was the main thing.

If you search further you will see that you can create keymoves and macros within IR , it's just a little tricky until you get the hang of it. Upgrades that create their own keymoves will be translated correctly into IR.

Did you mean that you weren't using the extender for the 6131 or that you didn't think there was one? The 6131 extender is worth learning how to use since it makes much better use of the memory in the eeprom. The default usage has a LOT of upgrade memory but very little keymove and macro memory. The extender reverses that and gives you lots of other options and features.

edit: Macros are normal , you were probably trying to use a bad keymove in the macro so it wouldn't work.
Just call me Zaphod (or Steve) --- I never should have started using numbers in a screen name but I just can't stop now.

Thanks zaphod. I meant that I am not using an extender. Usually when you ask a question one of the first things asked back is if using stock or have extender.

I am not going to put a lot of effort into getting the hang of it. I just bought a tivo for the bedroom and the stock control has a lot to be desired. I am using the 2107 and want to give the wife one for her side of the bed that was laid out similar to the stock remote. She doesn't use mine because she doesn't know what buttons are for what. The big one was the tv power on the pvr setting. I can't tell you how many times I have walked into the room with the tv on and the sat box off. Not to mention I only have tv, pvr and dvd in the bedroom. I don't need anything too extravagant there.

I got 3 of the RS 2117 controllers to mess with. I am going to get into the extenders one of these days. I am still hacking my tivo right now.
