Hi, I'm new to this JP1 stuff so perhaps I'm making a silly mistake so I hope someone can point me in the right direction.
I'm trying to program a URC-9910 to take the place of, amongst other things, the remote from my Phillips Magnavox TV. The remote is a RCU81E / 3139-128-75571. However, I seem to be unable to find a way to get the function of the "Multimedia" button.
I've searched the archives and various links but could not find an advanced code for that function. I've spoken to OFA support and they've tried very hard, but all they could do was send me the same lists as I found here. I've sent multiple emails to Phillips and UEI but they chose not to answer.
Yes, I did try learning the function but, here, the plot thickens. For some reason -- and this applies to ANY button I learn from the TV remote -- the TV will only accept one button press and then it ignores all other until I press another key. So, for example, if I learn the power button onto L1 I can press L1 and the TV turns on. I can then press L1 until I'm blue in the face and nothing happens. Of course, if I press any other button, then L1 will then turn the TV off! The same problem applies to the learned Multimedia button except that it's easier to explain the problem by speaking of the power button.
I've downloaded the remote into IR, and there things are just as confused. For example.
For the power button (for examples); IR says:
protocol=RC5, device=0, OBC=12, Hex Cmd=CC, CD or CE, EFC=044, or 036 or 060
For the multimedia button;
protocol=RC5, device=3, OBC=127, Hex Cmd=00, or 01, or 12, EFC=018, or 010, or 034
As far as I know, those are not the correct EFCs. Also, this weird behaviour only applies to the TV remote as any other remote can be learned and replayed. FWIW, OFA had no answer other than to perform a factory reset.
So, please advise me, how do I get the function of the Multimedia button and what is going on with these learned functions? Should I learn some buttons and dump the uploaded remote in the file area? |

As your learned signals indicate, your Philips TV uses the RC-5 protocol, which has a toggle bit built into it. The toggle bit is what causes your learned signals to only work once.
It appears that you were able to get a good learn of the MULTIMEDIA button that clearly shows it uses RC-5, device code 3, OBC 127.
Unfortunately, you won't be able to program this button using a keymove against any of the built in setup codes, so you will have to create an upgrade for it. Setup code TV/0054 does include device code 3, but only for OBCs below 64.
Here's a quickie upgrade where the MULTIMEDIA button is assigned to the POWER button:
Upgrade Code 0 = 07 D0 (TV/2000) keymap-master Device Upgrade (KM v8.29)
E8 00 11 1C 5C 5C 01

Because, as Rob explained, there wasn't one.

They really ought to be able to explain why the learned signal doesn't work twice in a row for the Philips device. That must be a question they are asked every day.
Providing an upgrade that lets your 9910 generate the signal correctly (as Rob did) is quite a bit harder for them. But usually OFA customer support can do that sort of thing as well.

A problem with a universal remote that they don't sell shouldn't concern them, so I understand not answering. There are arguments for "customer is always right" policies and helping your customer with something that isn't your issue. But those costs need to be contained.

They are the right EFC numbers. But 0054 isn't the right setup code for that button. Without an upgrade there is no right setup code. |

Thank you both for taking the time to explain that all to me. I've since reread the notes about RC-5 and, now that I better understand it, was able to recreate what Rob had posted plus add some functions for myself.
Thanks again. |
