The 3 volume buttons appear to use the RC-5 protocol with a device code of 0, the OBCs are 16, 17 and 13, which exactly matches the TV/0054 setup code, which is in the URC-9910. So, try programming 0054 to the TV button and see if the volume buttons work your N/L box? If they do, but you don't want to leavt TV/0054 programmed to the TV device button, you could keymove them over to the CBL button.

In addtion to the three RC5 commands that Rob covered there were only two commands that fit in the device upgrade's protocol:

L1= OBC 005
menu=OBC 034

Here are the functions that are already in the upgrade sorted by OBC:

001 right arrow
005 last/prev ch
006 power
009 num 8
010 num 7
011 channel up
012 select
014 num 9
015 num 1
016 channel down
017 num 2
018 num 3
020 call-id
021 page+
022 page-
023 num 4
024 last ch
025 num 5
026 exit
027 num 6
028 day+
029 left arrow
030 program/guide
031 day-
032 down arrow
035 up arrow
036 num 0
039 display/info
040 PPV
041 A/B
042 dev select

So OBC 005 is already there and just assign (and/or rename) that function in the buttons tab to the button you want it associated with.

Add OBC 034 and its function name in the functions tab and assign the function to a button.

BTW, you only need to know the OBC, KM figures out EFC and HEX.

Here is the command on L1 there are two identical commands in a row. We only need to decode the firrst six bits to get OBC:

+4992 -2982 Lead In

+1008 -2978 =Binary 1
+1008 -984 =Binary 0
+1008 -2978 =1
+1008 -984 =0
+1008 -984 =0
+1008 -984 =0

The rest of the command that is the same for all buttons:
+1008 -2978 +1008 -2978 +1008 -984 +1008 -984 +1008 -984 +1008 -984 +1008 -984 +1008 -984 +1008 -984 +1008 -984 +1008 -50802

The bits are sent backwards so it is really 000101 or decimal 5.

Some of what you both suggested worked and some didn't. I'll start with what worked.

I was able to keymove the volume buttons Rob mentioned. I was also able to add the menu function (OBC 034) to the upgrade Jon created and successfully assign it to a button.

What didn't work was the OBC 005 (last/prev ch) function. When assigned to a button it does not behave the same as the button on the original remote. Perhaps this is a function that can't be mapped in an upgrade.

Lastly, I tried creating functions for the volume commands using the OBC values Rob mentioned. Two of those OBCs (016 and 017) already map to functions (channel down and num 2) so I assume nothing can be done with those.

OBC 013 does not have a conflict so I created a function and assigned it to a button but it did not work. I tried creating a function using the EFC code from the keymoved mute button but it also didn't work when assigned to a button.

I'm happy with what you've both created here but was just trying to get the upgrade a bit better for others who may have this Next Level gateway. Any time you want to say "this is close enough", please do so. You've both been a big help and I don't want to overdo a good thing.

Thanks!
Marv

You can't make the volume buttons part of this upgrade. The volume buttons use the RC-5 protocol, whereas the rest of the buttons use the protocol that Jon created for you.

Regarding OBC 5, could you describe how the original button works and what this one does. Does this one perform the same function as any existing button? It's possible that the original button had some sort of macro on it that wasn't captured when you did the learning (though usually we can see that in the learned signal). Does OBC 5 appear to do part of what the original button does?

My apologies. I messed up and the function in the upgrade does work.

The button on the original remote is called "FAV" and progresses through a list of favorite channels you define through the gateway's menu screens.

I assigned this function to a button labeled "FAV" on the 9910 remote but when used it started an automatic scroll through all available channels at a rate of about a channel per second. When used a second time the scroll stopped.

After your last message I tried assigning the OBC 5 function to a different button and then it worked the same as the original remote. Even with nothing assigned to it from the upgrade the remote's "FAV" button still does the automatic scan. Apparently this button on the 9910 remote cannot be overwritten.

Sorry for the confusion.
