I've got the Radio Shack 15-1996 6-in-1 with the JP1 interface. I've just moved into a new house and would like to control some lamps with the remote.

What do I need to get started (I've looked around and don't see a good getting started document or FAQ)? I have a handful of lamp and appliance modules (clearance at Menards home center). Does this remote require the IR/X10 converter?

Can a wall switch be used to send an X10 signal? I'd like my wall switch to turn on/off a lamp on the other side of the room.

Thanks,

Tim

First off, the 15-1996 is a VCR controller, it's not a real remote control, so you won't be able to use it to control any X10 devices, it just does VCRs.

If you get a regular Radio Shack remote control, like the classic 15-1994 perhaps, you can also get an IR543 box and then you will totally be able to control your X10 stuff.

And yes, an X10 wall switch can send an X10 signal.
