URC 6131 OFA-- can you get the EEPROM at Radio Shack?

I'm trying to upgrade this ASAP so would rather avoid sending away for the chip. Anybody know what the RS part number would be?

I doubt that you will be able to find it at the Shack, but if you want to try searching for it, the actual part number (not the RS #) will be something like "24C16" (where the letter in the middle could be different)

If you need one quickly, I can send you one tomorrow for $2 shipped (or $3 if you also need the 6-pin).

Thanks Robman, that is great service. Just got the parts today.

Rob, I'm ready to go, but not sure which end is "up" on the EEPROM. Any guidance?

Boy I sure butchered the case opening it up. These guys make their remotes impossible to open the clamshell.

In particular, which pin is Pin 1 (per instructions in files section)-- top right or left, or bottom right or left (top being the first readable line saying "24 LC.....")

You'll be surprised to hear that the side with the writing on it is "up"!

Q2. Which is pin1?
Pin1 is indicated by a dot (or sometimes a bevel).

Q3. How do I open a remot ewithout butchering it?

No bevel, but there is a big white emblem with a logo on it, in one corner of the EEPROM. I assume that must be the dot. It's in the lower left hand corner. Therefore if Pin 1 goes in lower right hand corner (per instructions in the file section), the chip's "up" is to the left as you face the remote.

I soldered one of Rob's eeproms into a 6131 two weeks ago. Assuming the eeprom is the same one that I installed...

As you noticed the white dot is actually the manufactureres logo. None the less it is indeed near pin 1 (at least it was on my chip). If you look very close (this certainly took a very powerful magnifying glass for me to see) there is a notch just above pin 1. If I recall correctly there is a bevel around the top of the chip and the notch is on the bevel.

The eeprom goes on the lower right of the 6131 circuit card it should be oriented so that the logo (pin 1) is closest to the lower right corner of the circuit card.

Ok so I have edited this message about 15 times. Sorry if you get email each time I edit it.

Final edit - Your description of how the chip goes matches with how I installed mine.

Thanks greg. Solder worked fine. Note to all: you have to perform a hard reset for IR to see the EEPROM. I found code by doing search, I think it's "set" and 681--

anyway, works like a charm! thanks to robman and all...
