30 sec skip/ Instant Replay codes for Sci Atl 8000HD?

Post by uncleblaine »

I just finished putting the codes for the SA 8000 dvr from the yahoo files in my 8811 remote last night. However, the 30 sec skip and instant replay do not work. Does anyone know of different EFCs for the HD version of this box for these functions? Or if they even exist? I have several ReplayTVs so I never bothered getting an 8000 until the HD version became available so the assumption they worked on the 8000 is based on the note with the yahoo file. Those who are used to the skip and IR can I'm sure appreciate how much they are missed! :D

Do you have a remote for the 8000HD and if so, does it have IR or QS buttons? If it does, have you tried learning them?

Once again, the Robman to the rescue!

Now I really feel like an idiot.

With all the past controversy over QS I simply assumed it was a hack of some kind. It wasn't. The original remote does have the buttons, and I did learn. After getting the IR to work but not the QS, I'm even more stumped. When frustration led me to try the QS with the original remote and it does not work either. Perhaps it is not enabled on the 8000HD? The remote does send a signal according to my learning and it is EFC of 216, 224 or 200, none of which seem to do anything. The InstantReplay sends, again, according to learning, 245, 253 or 229. 245 worked right off so I didn't try the others. Anyone out there with an 8000HD on which the QS works? I'm baffled.

I haven't seen an SA8000 of late where the QS does work. Remember that the firmware in the box has been "tailored" to meet the cable company's desires. I expect that most of them have caved into the legal/political pressure of late, and have disabled the function.

I have the SA8000HD DVR and tried the 30 second skip code (EFC 049) but it didn't work for me. It just skips to the end of the recording.

I have the Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8000HD DVR along with the Atlas 5 remote. From day 1 the page-up and page-down functions have not worked (necessary when paging through the many channels I don't subscribe to!)

I downloaded the remote via IR.EXE and sure enough, page-up and page-down were not mapped. I performed the mapping in RemoteMaster and uploaded and... no joy.

Can someone with the same setup verify that page-up is EFC 57, and page-down is EFC 53?

I know the 8000HD functionality is OK, since I have an older remote and the page-up and page-down work fine using that. Alas, I have no learning remote to verify the codes myself...

Thanks!

In the Atlas DVR built-in setup code CBL/1877 (the normal one for the SA8000), the EFCs for page up and page down are 57 & 53, respectively. These have worked fine on Time-Warner's version of the SA8000. If you are able to see the key mapping in IR, it sounds like the remote is using an upgrade, because you can't see the mapping for built-in setup codes. After saving your existing configuration, you might try deleting the upgrade and using the built-in setup code.

I deleted the upgrade from the remote via IR so now it's using the CBL/1877 built-in, I assume. Still no response from the unit when I press the page-up and page-down keys. :-(

I suppose it's possible that those keys on the remote are defective, but it's hard to believe. I'll see if I can get Time Warner to exchange it for me.

The only other thing you might check is make sure that there is not a keymove (or macro) assigned to the page up/down buttons. Also, you could try a 981-reset before exchanging it.

Thanks for the suggestions. I did try the 981 reset, but no change in behavior. Took the remote to our local Time Warner reseller, and the salesperson exchanged it after reproducing the issue.

Now page-up and page-down are just fine. I'm chalking this one up to bad hardware, I guess...
