Homemade JP1 cable and 8910

Post by Ahoatam »

trying to download for the first time, and not getting any results in IR.exe. I've checked, double checked, and triple checked my connections on the solder points, and everything seems fine. I noticed that when I connect the JP1 to the remote, the LCD screen gets funky and every LCD character is faintly active. Is this similar to anyone else's experience? What might I have missed?
Yes Mike, but if the Laser Tag guns really worked on aliens, then we could just go after them all with our television remotes...

Have you tried it both with batteries in the remote and without?

Okay, tried both with and without batteries. Without batteries, I don't get the LCD thing, natch. In both modes, I get the error message "Did not recieve response (acknowledgement) from the remote after send to device address. Make sure your interface is plugged in properly...."

Also tried the manufacturer's reset. No dice.

Okay, when I built the simple cable, I mistakenly used a female DB25 plate. I soldered to the correct numbers, and simply put a gender-changer on the end of it. This is my biggest deviation. Is the problem here perhaps?

You don't get off that easy, now that you've asked for our help you have to tell us exactly what retarded thing you were doing. After all, someone else is almost bound to make the same mistake in the future.

Er... Following a color-coded wire scheme is no good if you are color blind. I totally switched my read and green wires (numbers 5 and 6 on the simple interface design) and it wasn't until I made my wife check everything in an act of desperation that I found my mistake.

Good thing I'm not a bomb technician.
