I currently have a Kameleon remote which I want to replace. I have tired of changing batteries and having to look for each button I want to push. I now have the ability to control my AV equipment from my computer with a usbuirt. What I want to do is have a remote that sends a signal when I push the device button such as tv - dvd - vcr. I can then have my computer send all the commands to set the correct inputs and turn on the correct equipment. Do any of the URC remotes send a signal when the device button is pressed?

Most remotes including the Kameleon series do not send a signal just switch to the device. However, with an extender you can send signals from any button. Not knowing which Kameleon you have I can't say if it has an extender available or not but more than likely it does if it is a RS2133, URC-8040, 8060, or 9960.

With an extender you gain alot of things in addition to being able to send signals from the device button. You get faster macros, macros on just about any button, device specific macros, toadtog, long and double keypress and a variety of other controls over the remote such as home theater control even if the remote did not originally support it.

I think the RCA RCU810 (which is a UEI remote similar to the URC models, unlike other RCA models) is the only model that natively sends a signal for device selection. It sends a signal that for most setup codes is not well chosen and is a problem more often than a help. I do not recommend that model.

The extender Nils described is free software loaded into the remote via JP1 cable. With that, any model that has an extender available (which includes most current models) can send a signal or signals (which you choose) when the device button is pressed.

Sounds like I should get a URC remote from "Rob's remote for sale" which I can program to send signals on the device button. I don't want to spend any time with my current Kameleon URC 9960 (batteries & no hard buttons)
