New to this JP1 forum folks so please excuse me if I repeat some questions here.
I am a devoted Tivo user. I just upgraded to two Series 2 Tivo's. A 40 & 80 hour. My wife who is visually impared loves the Tivos & would never give them up! Since she does not work she watches lots of TV.
I recently purchased an Enhansed Def. 42" Tatung plasma TV. I quickly found out the Tivo remote has NO CODES to controll the Tatung Plasma. So, I have to have 3 remotes on the table, the Tatung, Tivo & Motorola Digital cable box remote for Video On Demand.
I did notice that the Tatung plasma volume would either go up or down when using the Motorola remote to navigate thru Video On Demand menu. Not a good sign, TV IR codes close to a Motorola STB IR codes.
Bought this Plasma from a rather large Audio/Video store called Tweeters here on the East Coast. What's really strange is that I was searching all over the web and can't find any other person with Tatung issues. Am I the only Tatung Plasma owner?
OK, Now, I hate to have to give up the Tivo remotes. I do not see a JP1 connector, just a 3 pin connector under the batteries. Is it possible to modify this remote or will I need to purchase a couple JP1 remotes?
My wife likes the look & feel of the Tivo remote. Another plus to a new remote would be a backlit remote. I only know of one Tivo programmable remote. It was manufactured for the Sony Tivo DVR. I'm not sure if I can use it with my Tivos.
Ideas, Suggestions?
Thanks All |

The Sony Tivo remotes can be modified to be JP1-able, but the regular Philips/Hughes Tivo remotes are not JP1-able remotes.
The closest JP1 remote to the Tivo remote is the URC-6131 PVR Remote but it's not backlit. Another possibility is the URC-6011 which is the same size as the URC-6131 and is backlit. Both remotes need to be modified to be JP1-ready, but I have modified versions for sale.
Finally there's the issue of the Tatung plasma itself. You would either need to get a learning remote to capture the signals, such as the URC-8811, or you would need someone else to capture them and create an upgrade. _________________ Rob

I strongly suggest an OFA learning remote so we can analyze the command set. Once we analyze it you can create a device upgrade with our help if needed.
I looked at the Pronto ccf library, our device upgrade library, Premise system IR library. the RTI TT cml library, and the LIRC library and didn't find any command set. There are some OFA setup codes for Tatung TV's but there is no guarantee that those will work. _________________ -Jon |

I checked with UEI regarding the Tatung and they said that it uses the same codeset as the Gateway TVs, and I have that info somewhere, so if needed I can program a remote to work the Tatung. Plus, I checked my local Tweeter and they carry it, so I can also go around there and capture it. _________________ Rob
