I was wondering if VPT should work for the dev7, dev8 phantom keys.

I used IR5.09 and created a new setup, set TV to 0047, PVR to 0618,
dev8 to VCR/DVD 0618 and under the Macros Tab, added Shift-VCR to dev8 key.
Under Other settings, VPT Status is ON, VPT Device TV, TV VPT is ON,
PVR VPT is ON, dev8 VPT is ON.

When I press SET and VCR, pressing the VOL+/- keys has no affect.
When I press PVR, pressing VOL+/- keys does control TV volume.

As with all remotes, for VPT to work for a particular device button, the device button must be in it's native state (ie, if it's a VCR button, it must be programmed with a VCR type setup code). This also holds true for the two phantom device buttons. Now obviously, as there aren't physical buttons for these 2 modes, it's not so obvious what their native states are. To find out the native states, do a 981 reset on the remote and see what sort of codes are assigned by default. I seem to recall that both buttons are "audio" buttons.

Now for the possible solutions. If you are using upgrades for the 2 phantom buttons, you could create them using the correct device mode. On the other hand, if you need more buttons than those included in that mode, or if you're using built in setup codes, you could simply use keymoves to fix the volume buttons. Another option is to use the extender, which gives you complete control over VPT.

I can confirm that. I was just about to post that, but saw you had.
