Basically, you need an FTDI cable (or a Prolific cable), then you just need to modify the connector. More info here:

Re: What Kind of Cable to Buy and Where to Buy It.
Folks, would one of these work as a JP 1.3 cable?
https://www.amazon.com/AITRIP-Converter ... B0DXT54KHT
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08PK5723H
https://www.amazon.com/DSD-TECH-SH-U09G ... B083HVM7VZ
I am leaning toward first one as it is cheaper and I can reuse the jumper cables.
I have a confusion about this page: https://hifi-remote.com/wiki/index.php/JP1_Cables
One image ("PinOut JP1.x") showing the 2x3 socket with a label of RST. It is actually RTS, right?

I would guess that all of the Amazon items you listed would work for JP1.
Yes, you spotted a typo.

Another Amazon option for you:
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0CX8VYF8P (Amazon Canada)
I purchased this one a couple of months ago for an unrelated project because I didn't want to cut up my nicely shrink-wrapped JP1 cable.
I just tested it now on one of my remotes and can confirm that it works fine.
The Amazon.com link is insanely long, so just search for "Waveshare USB to TTL (C)" on amazon.com if you are in the USA.

Would CH340 based serial work too? https://www.amazon.com/DSD-TECH-SH-U07B ... B09CK79B4C
I am reading about FTDI and I don't agree with their measure of sabotaging counterfeit equipment and punishing their customers who may not know they are using fake chip.

I have no idea, but at $8.99 it won't cost you much to find out.

Re: What Kind of Cable to Buy and Where to Buy It.
Terrible option IMO since the all the needed pins are on completely different headers. Plus FTDI isn't the one sabotaging fakes. It's Prolific who does that.
We've posted many known good adapters already.

Re: What Kind of Cable to Buy and Where to Buy It.
Why? It comes with individual DuPont cables. The only pin not together is RTS which is just on a different header. No soldering required.
The sabotaging is widely reported as FTDIgate. https://hackaday.com/2014/10/22/watch-t ... ake-chips/ and they did it again, https://hackaday.com/2016/02/01/ftdi-dr ... ips-again/. It got so out of hand that Microsoft removed the driver from its windows update.

Re: What Kind of Cable to Buy and Where to Buy It.
I tried the CH340 USB Serial. I have mixed experience. Initially, it didn't work. Sometimes it reads null, sometimes it can detect my remote (RS 15-134, but it asks me to choose between 15-133, 15-134, 15-135), but would fail to read the entire memory.
I decided to keep the battery in the remote and this time it worked. But also seems not 100%. I was able to read and program my remote. It appears my remote was reset before the first successful read (it could be that I messed up while I was trying to get it to work).
Build-wise, the CH340 USB Serial looks solid. And it comes with a manual and even a product catalog. One problem is that it only comes with 1 DuPont cable and while one end is loose, the other end is all one flat connector meant to connect to the USB dongle. Which means I need an additional jumper for the RTS pin. The price is hard to beat, I paid $9 (+tax) and it comes with 2.

Re: What Kind of Cable to Buy and Where to Buy It.
Are there certain available brands that are more reliable? The brand in the wiki is no longer available.
I picked up THIS BRAND but neither cable worked. They even bricked one of my 3680s...!
I have THIS ONE on order now.

Re: What Kind of Cable to Buy and Where to Buy It.
As you can see from both of the listings that you linked to, neither of those cables have "brands", they're all generic, so it's impossible to see which one is better than the other. I used to link to known-good cables, but it was difficult to keep up with the changing listings, so I stopped. I just took a quick look on eBay and the days of being able to get a cable for just $2-3 if you didn't mind waiting for shipping from China are gone. The cheapest now, with shipping are in the $15 range. If you're noting having good luck with the FTDI cables, try a Prolific one instead. Here's one for under $9 shipped: https://www.ebay.com/itm/222329930354
