Thanks very much for the update which also acts as a useful reminder. Reckon the XLS makes it easier to find the right file and not to overlook it if it is present. I tried a couple of links which worked perfectly.

OK, here's JP1Master 1.17

The good news is that it only took 1 hour to download all of the Device Upgrades, excepting Wav, UEI, and Slingbox. Computers and servers apparently do get faster. Even better, the whole process only failed on one file, and that is much improved compared to earlier scraping.

The bad news for me is that I no longer have Excel on my personal computer, and I had to jump through some hoops to just move the CSV file via email to my work computer. Then I had to make some minor changes to the VBA code in Excel to work on a 64 bit OS. I don't know how much longer it will be possible to do this scraping without a complete rewrite--which I'm not inclined to do.

Roughly counting, there were 190 new or revised upgrades in the last 2.5 years.

Thanks Dave, I use this file extensively, so this is much appreciated.

Was there something about the file that broke it that I can fix?

Thank you very much Dave! 8-) I use it within RemoteLocator (which is a tool embedded in IrScrutinizer, Pane Import -> RemoteLocator. It allows to browse and sometimes download remotes from the the JP1 collection, Lirc, Irdb and my own GirrLib.)

Migrating away from Microsoft Office to free software is a good thing. Have you tried if it works with LibreOffice Calc? Another free alternative may be Gnumeric.

The JP1Scraper program has been in the File Section for years, but I see that I had omitted a necessary DLL. I also revised the instructions a bit, so I've uploaded again.
JP1Scraper V5.

Barf, I use LibreOffice at home, but JP1master.xls uses Visual Basic for Application code. LibreOffice also has a macro language but it is not compatible with VBA.

I have not used the JP1 forum for a few years. I still have couple of Atlas remotes (1055 and 1056) and a JP1,2/3 cable. I see RMIR is still being updated but I could not find the old file section for device upgrades. I'm feeling a bit lost. Any suggestions? - Cloneman

Hah, you missed all the excitement. Rob had to rebuild the forums and they just came online last week. File section is still missing BUT thankfully there is a mirror at GitHub.

https://github.com/hifiremote

if you look at the discussions there you can see what's happened. I don't know if the file section will eventually be moved back here or left on GitHub, but the good news is that most of the files were saved and in fact new ones can still be added (I recently brute forced an upgrade for a "new" A/V switch I got that revealed some new discretes)

Excellent, mystery solved. Thanks for files the link. Unfortunately still no information, codes or files for my seemingly non-existent Telus cable box (made by Technicolor).

Actually I did try the forum link a week ago when it was down. I was surprised (and delighted) when it flashed up yesterday.

All of the files are still here, as is the database with their info, but I need to create a new "extension" (as they're called in phpbb land) to access them. I am working on it, but I don't have an ETA

Unfortunately no device upgrade for my Telus cable box. My last JP1 remote with learning (Atlas 1055) died years ago otherwise I would attempt to built one myself. What about an IR Widget? Is it a possible alternative to a learning remote?
Any thoughts on alternative JP1 remotes with learning that have a good layout for a cable box/pvr and at least 4 macro keys?

It's not the only way to go but I have several AR Xsight Colors as I find them very intuitive to use. Unfortunately they are all getting pretty aged with no real replacement in sight.
