Post by unclemiltie »

I downloaded a "master file" for Yamaha receivers and it has several hundred buttons defined for the different zones, remote ID's and the like.

When trying to find the stuff that I want to use to put on buttons I have to browse through these things and it's tedious and time consuming.

Some kind of "search" or "filter" function that would allow me to restricdt the list (e.g. show me all of the functions that are only for the main zone) would be really helpful in trying to navigate making this upgrade.

I assume you're talking about this file:

As this is an Excel file, what sort of modification are you suggesting?

Do you know how to do "Find" and "Filter" in Excel? I just added filters to the file.

I assume that you are talking about the "Functions" tab in the Device Upgrade Editor. There are three potential solutions: One is already implemented, one would be pretty easy to implement, one is hairy.

Already implemented: Click the table head "Name" once (or twice) with the LMB (left mouse). The lines will be ordered alphabetically, in ascending or descending order. Case sensitively, possibly we should change that? Having table sorted alphabetically in general makes easy to find what you are looking for.

Easy to implement: A Ctrl-F-type seach function, like in IrScrutionizer, Scrutinize Remote.

Somewhat complicated to implement: A Filter function, the user inputs a string/regular expression, and only the names matching are shown. Can be highly confusing if turned on by accident.

Rob, I'm not talking about an EXCEL file but one that is an RM file that has something like 400 functions defined. I forget where I got it, but somewhere here someone did a whole lot of work finding codes for remotes with different ID numbers, for lots of different receivers, zones, etc.

Barf,

I'm talking about the functions, buttons and layout tabs. All could use a search/filter function to make them easier to use when there is a large list of functions.

Clicking the sort does help a bit but.... you can't do that on the screens where you assign functions to buttons. So what you have to do is sort the functions tab, get the function number and then go to the functions tab and scroll to sort of the place where the function might be since it's apparently sorted by function number to try to find what you're looking for.

A Ctrl-F search would be good, it would at least allow you to find what you're looking for, although that might require multiple Crtl-F searches to find the one (e.g. in that upgrade for Yamaha there are multiple with HDMI1 (main zone, zone 2, zone 3, zone 4) But that's certainly better than nothing

A filter function would be ideal since you could type in HDMI1 and it would narrow the list to all of the HDMI1 input selector codes and you could then pick from there. Getting rid of it there could be a "clear" button of some kind that kills the filter.
