Basic Question about pinouts on OneforAll URC 11-7556

Post by marshalleq »

I've plugged this in like it says to in a few places, but the power light is coming on the serial adapter before it's even plugged into the computer.

I've had a look in the remote and the pinout is clearly written as:

12
34
56

According to some info on this site it's apparently a JP1.2 remote.

Can someone confirm for me, which pins are rx / tx and ground? Also, I think I don't need RTS on JP1.2?

Thanks.

Or failing that, is JPS 1.2 a standard pinout and can you point me at what that is?

Try paragraph - FTDI and Prolific cables on eBay in

Or http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewt ... p?t=103438

Or 2nd post in

I think you'll need RTS on the adapter cable.
Can you not get a device with GND, TXD, RXD and RTS? Eg try eBay or Amazon.

Thanks, yes I've ordered a cable with RTS, but I'm impatient and have other serial cables. Thought the 1.2 worked without it but seems like I'm wrong. Will take a look at your links thanks.

pinout:
1,5 N/C
2 = RTS
3 = GND
4 = TXD
6 = RXD

Do not connect VCC because the cable will probably output 5 Volts for your 3 volt remote.
The remote must have batteries installed.
If it doesn't work, it's possible that you have TXD and RXD reversed. I have seen some cables labeled incorrectly.

For anyone else coming here for this exact remote, this is the connector I have, though I haven't tested it yet - cable just arrived, so soon!

Just confirming ,this did work with this remote. The difference seems to be getting a serial adapter with RTS pins included. Thanks.

Yup, from the thread on finding cables...

Chip_partner is no longer selling FTDI FT232RL cables, but other FTDI cable should work instead.

Another option a Prolific PL2303HXD USB to RS232 TTL Cable. This cable usually has a pink casing. It comes with a 1*6 solid DuPont connector, which will need to be replaced with a 2*3 connector.

The key to searching for cables yourself is to check that the RTS line is present, which usually means you need a 6pin cable.
